The Lamb County AgriLife Extension Office hosted 4-H Project Camp this week at the Lamb County Ag Center in Littlefield.
Monday was day 1 of Project Camp, where campers’ missions included: • meeting their group leaders and making group flags,
• starting the process to turn blue jeans into laundry bags,
• making calming jars and learning ways to deal with stressful situations,
• creating marshmallow shooters when learning about shooting sports,
• learning about physical activity,
• completing a service project of writing thank you notes to local first responders, • painting a canvas bag as part of the fashion & interior design project.
Day two missions included: • hearing from our leaders about why they joined 4-H and their favorite experiences,
• testing out some protein alternatives like bugs and Lima beans ( the cricket flour chocolate chip cookies were amazing!!), • learning about photography from Lamb County Leader-News Sports Editor Derek Lopez,
• sewing our first seams on our blue jean laundry bags,
• learning about beef cattle, the calf scramble, and showing heifers,
• what to look for and how to fill out a scantron when judging livestock,
• all about animal digestion (cows don’t have four stomachs, they have one stomach with 4 chambers!).
The kids also got to cook their own grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch!
The AgriLife Extension Office was excited to have their Lamb County kids along with Hockley County members and some who are visiting all the way from Florida.
