Junior Garcia, Donna Neinast win Football Contest

The Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest completed its eighth week this past week with several games getting canceled.

15 contestants finished with a mark of 19-1: David Neinast, Donna Neinast, Floyce Pierce, Jan Smith, Jay Lee, Johnny Rosemond, JR Herrell, Junior Garcia, Kay Cloninger, Lonnie Neinast, Marcus Garcia, Nancy Smith, Tommy Cloninger, Mark Grace and Thomas Blackstone.

The Tie-Breaker was originally supposed to be the combined score of the Jets and Chargers, but the Jets ended up playing the Dolphins with the combined score being 24 points.

Junior Garcia and Donna Neinast split the winnings for first and second place evenly, each guessing 40 points, while Nancy Smith, Floyce Pierce and Johnny Rosemond split the third-place winnings with a guess of 45 points.

The Littlefield and Dalhart game was canceled due to COVID-19 hitting in Littlefield and the Springlake-Earth and Lorenzo game was canceled due to Lorenzo having a shortage of players.

Olton blasted Boys Ranch, 63-0, while Amherst held off a late comeback from Whitharral, 48-43. Lubbock-Cooper throttle Monterey, 49-8, while Anton blasted Cotton Center, 70-6.

Shallowater survived a scare from Denver City, 44-41, while Sundown took down Floydada, 58-21. Happy got the best of White Deer, 59-44, while Hale Center defeated Tahoka, 38-13.

In the college ranks, Notre Dame picked up an ugly win over Louisville, while Kansas fell to West Virginia, 38-17. Temple edged out USF, 39-37, while Alabama took down Georgia, 41-24. The LSU and Florida game was postponed.

In the NFL, the Steelers kept on rolling with a win over the Browns, 38-7, while The Colts edged out the Bengals, 31-27, and the Bears downed the Panthers, 23-16.

The Lions defeated the Jaguars, 34-16.

The Broncos game was the wrong game.

Those who finished 18-2 this week were, Dewayne Hayes, James Hood, Lyndel Evans, Sam Castillo, Stevy Smith, Terrill Moorhead and Charlie Smith, while Alma Castillo, Brenda Herrell, Devin Garcia, Devin Jones, Jimmy Davis Sr., Larry Ashley and Oscar Sanchez each finished 17-3.

Contestants who finished 16-4 were Bobby Cunningham, Ed Dabrowski, Ivan Estrada, Jimmy Davis Jr., Missy Cunningham and Robin Elliott, while Teresa Dabrowski finished 15-5.

Lonnie Neinast remains in first place with 140 points, with David Neinast trailing close behind in second place with 135 points and Tommy Cloninger following in third place with 134 points.

JR Herrell and Grace are tied for fourth with 132 points, while Pierce, Kay Cloninger and Nancy Smith are tied for fifth with 130 points. Lee is in sixth place with 129 points, while Jan Smith and Marcus Garcia are tied for seventh with 128 points.

Stevy Smith and Estrada are tied for eighth with 127 points, while Evans is in ninth place with 126 points. Donna Neinast, Rosemond, Hayes and Moorhead round out the top 10 with 125 points.
