The Lamb County Leader-News’ annual Football Contest is through week three of the season.
John Hernandez took first place this week with a mark of 17-3, while Martin Duran and Steve Raney tied for second place with a mark of 16-4.
The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the Commanders and Eagles, which was 46 points.
Duran edged out Raney for second place with a guess of 42 points, while Raney finished third this week with a guess of 41 points.
In the high school ranks, Littlefield held off Abernathy on the road, 2418, while Olton shutout Sudan, 41-0, for their Homecoming victory. Motley County and Springlake-Earth resumed play on Friday, as Motley County took the contest, 56-6.
Meadow shutout Amherst, 62-0, while Roosevelt shutout Brownfield, 37-0, and Wall blasted Jim Ned, 49-13. Wheeler edged out Hale Center, 15-14, while Valley won a close contest over Happy, 66-64. Clarendon took down Plains on the road, 42-30, while Forsan defeated Stanton, 48-22.
In the College ranks, Michigan upset Oklahoma in Ann Arbor, 17-10, while Texas rallied for an upset over Number one Ohio State, 24-23. Tennessee took care of Georgia Tech, 45-24, while Texas Tech defeated Oregon State, 3524, and Iowa edged out Iowa State, 16-13.
In the NFL, the Bengals took down the Buccaneers, 33-27, while the Lions defeated the Saints in overtime, 31-30, and the Jets took down the Titans, 2310. The Ravens blasted the Colts, 41 -23, while the Bills took down the Texans, 3631.
Individual results are as follows: Dewayne Hayes, Jan Smith, JC Orozco, JR Herrell, Lonnie Neinast, Martin Duran Jr. and Richard Orozco each finished 15-5, while David Neinast, Johnny Rosemond, Thomas Blacks tone and Tim Walker each finished 14-6.
Those who finished 13-7 this week were Alma Castillo, Brenda Herrell, Donna Neinast, Ed Dabrowski, Larry Ashley, Micky Orozco, Oscar Sanchez, Sam Castillo and Stevy Smith, while those who finished 12-8 were Juan Garza and Mark Grace.
Charlie Smith, Moe Castillo and Teresa Dabrowski each finished 11-9, while Jimmy Garcia, Robin Elliott and Stetson Sedberry each finished 10--10 and Stephanie Dabrowski rounded out the field with a mark of 9-11.
In the overall standings, we have a three-way tie, as Rosemond, Lonnie Neinast and Raney are tied with 46 points. Hernandez, JC Orozco and David Neinast are tied for second with 44 points, while Hayes, JR Herrell and Richard Orozco are tied for third with 43 points.
Jan Smith, Donna Neinast, Ashley and Stevy Smith are tied for fourth with 42 points, while Duran, Brenda Herrell, Micky Orozco and Sam Castillo are tied for fifth with 41 points, and Blackstone, Walker and Alma Castillo are tied for sixth with 40 points. Sanchez is in seventh with 39 points, while Ed Dabrowski and Moe Castillo are tied for eighth with 38 points.
Garza and Grace are tied for ninth with 37 points each, while Elliott rounds out the top 10 with 35 points.
