Week seven of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is in the books and we are in the back half of our football contest with just five weeks remaining.

This week we had a three-way tie for first with three contestants finishing with a mark of 18-2. Those contestants were Jan Smith, Donna Neinast and Ivan Estrada.

The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the game between the Pecos and Monahans; 59 points. Jan Smith claimed the top prize this week with a guess of 57 points, while Estrada took second place with a guess of 65 points and Donna Neinast took third place with a guess of 70 points.

In the high school ranks, The Littlefield Wildcats came up short on the road, falling to Coahoma, 35-28, while Sudan opened district with a win over Hale Center, 26-6, and Olton picked up a district win over Post, 40-22. The Springlake-Earth Wolverines came up short against Whiteface, 50-44, while Anton was shutout by Kress, 560.

Bushland shutout Muleshoe, 34-0, while Canadian blasted Childress, 62-28, and Lockney Edged out Crosbyton, 26-21. Abernathy defeated Idalou, 20-3, for a big district win.

In the college ranks, Alabama survived a scare from Texas A&M, 24-20, and Oklahoma State downed Texas Tech, 41-31. Texas shutout Oklahoma, 49-0, in the Red River Rivalry, while Notre Dame won their Shamrock Series game over BYU in Las Vegas, 28-20. North Carolina State took down Florida State, 19-17.

In the NFL, The Bills blasted the Steelers, 38-3, while the Saints outlasted the Seahawks, 39-32, and the Cowboys took down the Rams, 22-10. The Eagles held off the Cardinals, 20-17, and the Vi-kings defeated the Bears, 29-22.

The rest of the scores for this week are as follows: Those who finished 17-3 this week were David Neinast, Brenda Herrell and Mark Grace, while those who finished 16-4 were Lonnie Neinast, Johnny Rosemond, Dewayne Hayes, Oscar Sanchez, Stevy Smith, J.C. Orozco, Terrill Moorhead, Tommy Cloninger, Richard Orozco, Charlie Smith and Chris Ruiz.

15-5 finishers this week include JR Herrell, Martin Duran, Marcus Garcia, Alma Castillo, Larry Ashley and Robin Elliott, while Devin Garcia and Sam Castillo each finished 14-6, and Marcelino Garcia Jr., Gary Edwards, Ronnie Martin, Trevor Williams, Floyce Pierce and Ed Dabrowski each finished 13-7.

Teresa Dabrowksi finished 12-8 this week, while Moe Castillo, Jimmy Garcia and Martin Duran Jr. finished 11-9, Thomas Blackstone finished 10-10 and Maria Pinon finished 9-11 this week.

In the overall standings, David Neinast sits alone at the top with 101 points, while Jan Smith is in second place with 99 points and Brenda Herrell is in third place with 98 points. Donna Neinast and JR Herrell are in fourth place with 97 while Estrada, Lonnie Neinast, Rosemond, Duran and Garcia Jr., are tied for fifth with 96 points.

Hayes is in sixth with 94 points, while Sanchez and Edwards are tied for seventh with 93 points, and Stevy Smith and J.C. Orozco are tied for eighth with 91 points. Grace is in ninth with 90 points, and Moorhead, Cloninger, Marcus Garcia and Devin Garcia round out the top 10 with 89 points.
