Over the next several weeks I hope you’ll hear of churches in our community hosting VBS which stands for Vacation Bible School. My church, First Baptist, will be hosting it each evening from June 11-14. It’s an important event that has been around our nation since 1898. It’s essentially a day camp for children to learn about Jesus and His Word. I remember going to VBS when I was a child and it was one of the best weeks of the entire year. We sang songs and played games and heard amazing stories, presented in creative ways, about Jesus Christ. I’d always invite friends and it was such a thrill to see them accept Christ as their Savior.

It’s a fantastic event. In fact, VBS is used by more than 25,000 churches each year to reach more than 2.5 million people. Last year, more than 70,000 salvation decisions were reported as a direct result of VBS in the Southern Baptist Convention. Talk about impact! Furthermore, VBS consistently accounts for roughly 25 percent of baptisms in Southern Baptist churches. Think about that for a moment. One- quarter of all people reached by any given church are reached through VBS. That’s a staggering statistic. So, here’s what I’m asking from you. I believe you’re reading this article for a purpose and I ask that you pray for all VBS events taking place in Lamb County this summer. Again, our VBS will take place June 11-14 from 6pm-8pm and I would love for you to pray on those days for a mighty movement of God. I know it’ll make an eternal difference.

Love You All, Pastor Tanner
