Thanksgiving is a time of being together and surrounded by those we care about most. This year, though, with everything going on in the world, that togetherness is being tried by the current pandemic going on in the world that is COVID-19.

Whether you choose to still gather with all of your family, or celebrate the holiday from afar, in small groups, one thing is for certain and that is that we can all be thankful for another day given to us.

We asked people from around the community to tell us what they are thankful for and these are their answers:

Billie Rae McCurry said: “I’m thankful I had part of my family with us for Thanksgiving dinner Sunday.

“I’m thankful for my family, friends and neighbors, and mostly for God who serves us, and never leaves us, or forsakes us. I’m thankful for the prayers that have been said for me and my family.

“I’m thankful I can still be here, and for the doctors who have known how to take care of me, that gave me good health.”

John D. McCarty of Littlefield continued the phrase, saying: “I’m thankful for my life and my health and my strength. I’m thankful for the youth and activity of my body and limbs.

“I’m thankful to have a God who loves me, and I really do love Him!”

He said his niece is preparing Thanksgiving meals for several in the community, and he plans to go by and pick up one for himself.

Littlefield Head Volleyball Coach Claire Head, talked about what she is thankful for this year, saying, “Although 2020 has been a year of challenges and at times disappointments, it has also been a year full of tranquility. I am thankful for God’s reminder that it is OK to slow down, enjoy the little things and that sometimes less is better, even when you are so busy, it’s OK.” She added, “Even though it took me being begrudgingly forced to stay home for lengthy times throughout the year, I am thankful for this blessing.”

Shawna Hastings said that she is thankful to live in a small town where people come together during the hard times. “I’m thankful for the daily forgiveness and love of my Savior,” Hastings said. “I’m thankful for my parents, my husband and my friends, who support me; none of this would be possible without them.”

Sudan Head Softball Coach Daniel Gutierrez said that he is thankful for his family and friends.

“I’m thankful for the job I have and all the opportunities they have blessed me with,” Gutierrez said. “I am also thankful for the community I live in.”

Amherst senior, Omar Reyes Jr., talked about what he is thankful for, stating, “I’m thankful for my family and all that they do for me. I’m thankful for having a football season this year and I’m thankful for the bond I created with my friends.”

He added, “I ask God to protect over the ones I love and to always allow us to keep our faith.”

Primetime Barbershop Owner, Isaac Jaramillo, stated, “I’m thankful for my business surviving this year despite all of the struggles. I’m thankful that my family has remained healthy and mostly safe through this. I’m thankful that I get to serve such a great community. I’m thankful for the group of friends I’ve made over this past year and I’m thankful for my family and the love we have gotten to share.”

Layla Duran talked about some of the things she is thankful for, saying, “I have so many things to be thankful for this year. Here are some of my biggest things I’m thankful for. I’m thankful for my baby sister. I’m very happy and excited to be a big sister. I’m thankful for my family. My family cares for me and loves me. I’m thankful for my dogs. I love to play with my dogs; they make me very happy.”

She added, “This Thanksgiving I am very grateful for everything in my life. I’m very blessed.”

Littlefield junior, Ty’Jae Chambers, said that he is thankful for his family and friends.

Robert Rios said that he is thankful that he and his family have been doing OK, as far as COVID-19 goes. He is also thankful that they have been able to work throughout this pandemic.

Lambert Reyes stated, “I’m thankful for my little girl, my two boys, my wife, my health and my friends and family.”

Littlefield senior, Blake Green, said that he is thankful to have gotten to play a whole football season.

Littlefield Head Basketball Coach Rob Ogle talked about what he’s thankful for this year, saying, “I’m thankful for my family, particularly my wife & her health. I’m Also thankful to live in our country and to work with kids. I hope to make them better young men.”

Littlefield junior, Brianna Escovedo, said, “I’m thankful for making it this far in 2020 and God making sure everyone that I prayed for are safe and in good hands and just watching over them.”

Alee McNeese, said, “I am thankful for my family, and that in times like these we live in a supportive, close-knit, Christian community like Littlefield.”

Littlefield junior, Jordan Trevino, stated that he is always thankful for his family and for God for putting him here today.

Amy Ronneburg talked about what she is thankful for, saying, “I am thankful for my Sudan and Littlefield community. Our family has been hit with COVID-19 and the outpouring of calls, messages and especially porch drops are a huge reminder that we are not in this alone. I am thankful for friends and family who don’t forget you especially when times get tough.”

She added, “2020 has been a rough year but our surrounding towns always come together in a time of need. I Hope everyone has a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving day and let’s all remember the meaning of this Holiday and appreciate it just a little more this year.”

Nicole Shelley stated that she is thankful for her family and all of their health.

Erica Chambers, stated, “I am thankful for my friends and family. I’ve been sick this past week and the love that was shown to me was

Caroline Cozart said that she is most thankful for her family and her fiancé during this trying time and them being healthy and happy.

Adrian Solis talked about what he is thankful for, saying, “I’m thankful for all of the blessings that God has given us. Most importantly, another day to spend with our family and friends and the ability to stay safe during this time of the pandemic. All glory goes to God.”

Daniella Solis, said that she is thankful for her family.

“Without any of them I wouldn’t be the person I am today,” she explained “I am also thankful for God because of all the blessings He has given me. Whether that be waking up in the morning, having good health, and knowing I have the chance to live an eternal life with Him.”

Alex Troche said that he is thankful for good health.

“Even if my health isn’t great, it could be worse and I likely still have some working parts to be thankful for. I’m thankful for money in the bank. Having just a few coins makes you richer than most people on Earth and I’m thankful for good friends.”

Amherst junior, Jaime Garcia, said that he is thankful for his family, his teammates, his girlfriend and having God in his life.

Littlefield junior, Davin Saldana, said, “Being thankful is being grateful. Be grateful for what you have and stop complaining, it bores everybody else, it does you no good, and doesn’t solve any problems. There are people in this world who aren’t able to experience Thanksgiving or even understand the behind it.”

He added, “I’m thankful for God blessing me to wake up and see another day and to breathe another breath. I’m thankful for my AMAZING family and friends who support me in anything I do. I can’t explain or exaggerate enough how important Thanksgiving is to me. I’m thankful for being who I am.”

Stan Carpenter said that he is thankful for his wife, his two sons, their sweet little Granddaughter, Briggslee.

“I’m also thankful for my job, my health and our home,” he added.

Krista Carpenter, said. “I am definitely thankful that 2020 is about over, it’s been one long year for everyone. I’m also very thankful for God who walks each day beside me, I’m thankful for my husband, our two handsome sons, our precious little Granddaughter, Briggslee, and I’m thankful for this Country we live in, and for my Daddy and our beautiful new home.”

Seth Carpenter stated that he is thankful for his daughter, Briggslee, for his fiance and for his family.

Marsha Troche, Manager at Library of Legacy, said,”I’m thankful for my family, and my job, the Staffhere at Library of Legacy, and for all the sweet elderly people we are able to care for every day.”

Madelene Acosta (Prescription Shop Employee) said that she is thankful for her family and her health.

Melissa Lowe talked about what she is thankful for, saying, “I’m thankful for memories, and sweet friends who know how to get me through the hard times.”
