HPWD Candidate filing started July 25 for Precincts 1, 2, and 5 elections

Candidates for Precinct 1, 2, & 5 District Director of the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District No. 1 (HPWD) can file applications for place on the ballot beginning Monday, July 25, 2022, and ending at 5 p.m, Monday, August 22, 2022.

 

• District Director Precinct One consists of Lynn County, Lubbock County, and the portion of Crosby County within the District. Dan Seal of Lubbock is the current director.

 

• District Director Precinct Two consists of Lamb County, Cochran County, and the portion of Hockley County within the District. Brad Heffington of Littlefield is the current director.

 

• District Director Precinct Five consists of Hale County, Swisher County, and the portion of Floyd County within the District. Ronnie Hopper of Petersburg is the current director.

Candidates for HPWD District Director must meet all eligibility requirements found in Chapter 141.001 of the Texas Election Code.

To be eligible to be a candidate, a person must:

• Be a United States citizen;

• Be 18 years of age or older;

• Be a registered voter of the District by the August 22nd filing deadline;

• Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be: * Totally mentally incapacitated or; * Partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote;

• Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;

• Have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six (6) months preceding the Monday, August 22nd filing deadline; and

• Satisfy any other eligibility requirements prescribed by law for the office.
