Hood wins week seven football contest

The Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest made it through its seventh week this past weekend, with only one game getting canceled that effects the contest, which was Olton and Panhandle.

The winner of this week’s contest was James Hood, who finished the week 19-1, followed by Juanita Trevino, who placed second this week with a mark of 18-2.

For third place we had a tie between JR Herrell, Larry Ashley, Lonnie Neinast, Lyndel Evans and Robin Elliott. The tie-breaker this week came from the NFL ranks and was the combined score of the Jaguars and Texans, which was 44 points. Lonnie Neinast and Robin Elliott split for third place, both guessing 50 points.

Littlefield bottled up River Road to kick-off district play with a, 22-9, victory, while Sudan fell short against Bovina on the road, 25-21.

Amherst won a shootout over Lazbuddie, 66-52, while, Canadian throttled Highland Park, 81-6, and Anton won their battle over Whitharral, 67-22. Shallowater took down Lamesa, 52-8, while Levelland defeated Borger, 27-14, and Bushland shutout Muleshoe, 63-0.

Dumas rounded out the high school slate of games, with a, 40-14, victory over Caprock.

In the college ranks, Notre Dame ran away from Florida State, 42-26, while Alabama took down Ole Miss, 63-48, and Navy took down Temple, 31-29. Texas Tech fell to Iowa State, 31-15, while Auburn survived Arkansas, 30-28.

In the NFL, the Cleveland Brown stook down the Indianapolis Colts, 32-23, while the Steelers downed the Eagles, 38-29, behind a four touchdown performance from rookie wide receiver, Chase Claypool.

The Los Angeles Rams took down the Washington Football Team, 30-10, while the Dallas Cowboys came out in front of the New York Giants, 37-34.

The Titans took down the Bills on Tuesday night, 42-16, to round out this weeks slate of games.

Those who finished 16-4 this week were, Bobby Cunningham, Devin Garcia, Dewayne Hayes, Donna Neinast, Ivan Estrada, Jay Lee, Mark Grace, Martin Duran, Nancy Smith, Terrill Moorhead and Tommy Cloninger.

Contestants who went 15-5 this week were, Alma Castillo, Brenda Herrell, David Neinast, Devin Jones, Floyce Pierce, Jan Smith, Junior Garcia, Kay Cloninger, Missy Cunningham and Sam Castillo.

14-6 finishers this week include, Charlie Smith, Ed Dabrowski, Jimmy Davis Jr., Marcus Garcia, Oscar Sanchez, Ronald Williams, Stevy Smith and Thomas Blackstone, while those who finished the week 13-7 include, Danny Sanders, Johnny Rosemond and Teresa Dabrowski.

Jimmy Davis Sr., finished the week 12-8.

In the overall standings, Lonnie Neinast gained some breathing room in first place with 121 points, while David Neinast sits second place with 116 points and Tommy Cloninger is in third place with 115 points.

JR Herrell and Mark Grace are tied for fourth with 113 points, while Estrada, Nancy Smith, Pierce and Cloninger are tied for fifth with 111 points. Lee is in sixth place with 110 points, while Jan Smith, Marcus Garcia and Stevy Smith are tied for seventh with 109 points.

Evans is along in eighth place with 108 points, while Hayes and Moorhead are tied for ninth with 107 points and Bobby Cunningham, Donna Neinast and Rosemond round out the top 10 with 106 points.
