The Lamb County Leader- News’ annual Football Contest is off and running as week two of the High School and College Football seasons are in the books.
Johnny Rosemond, Hilaria Saenz and Scott Rojas tied for first this week with a mark of 18-2.
The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of Arkansas State and Memphis, which was 66 points.
Saenz took first place with a guess of 58 points, while Rojas placed second with a guess of 54 points, and Rosemond finished third with a guess of 45 points.
In the high school ranks, Littlefield rallied past Denver City on the road, 39-21, while Sudan went on the road and took down Sundown, 36-20. Olton’s game with Morton was cancelled, while Paducah took down Springlake- Earth, 59-24, and Motley County defeated Amherst, 58-0.
Anton defeated Loop on Thursday, 54-28, while Benjamin defeated Groom 48-40, and Canadian took down Bushland on the road, 27-17. Claude shutout Miami, 60-0.
In the College ranks, Notre Dame won their Shamrock Series game over Wisconsin at Lambeau Field, 41-13, while UCLA defeated California, 45-24, and LSU blasted Clemson, 51-10. Oregon survived a scare from Boise State, 34-27, while Houston defeated Oregon State, 33-20, and Miami (FL) throttled Stanford, 45-6.
Cincinnati took down Boston College, 34-15, while Auburn held off Baylor, 17-16, and Tulsa took down Oklahoma State, 24-10. Idaho State defeated Utah State, 2917.
Individual results are as follows: Lonnie Neinast finished 17-3 this week, while David Neinast, Donna Neinast, Steve Raney and Stevy Smith finished 16-4. Those who finished 15-5 were Alma Castillo, Brenda Herrell, JC Orozco, JR Herrell, Larry Ashley, Micky Orozco and Tim Walker. 14-6 finishers included Charlie Smith, William Albus, Dewayne Hayes, Jan Smith, John Hernandez, Sonja Robey, Martin Duran, Moe Castillo, Oscar Sanchez, Richard Orozco, Robin Elliott and Sam Castillo, while Ed Dabrowski, Juan Garza and Stephanie Dabrowski each finished 13-7, while Mark Grace and Thomas Blackstone each finished 12-8 and Teresa Dabrowski finished 11-9.
Stetson Sedberry finished 10-10 this week, while Jimmy Garcia rounded out the field with a mark of 8-12.
In the overall standings, Rosemond leads the way with 32 points, but Lonnie Neinast is close behind in second place with 31 points and David Neinast and Raney are tied for third place with 30 points. Donna Neinast, Stevy Smith, JC Orozco and Ashley are tied for fourth with 29 points, while Brenda Herrell, JR Herrell, Micky Orozco, Hayes, Richard Orozco and Sam Castillo are tied for fifth with 28 points.
Alma Castillo, Jan Smith, Hernandez and Moe Castillo are tied for sixth with 27 points, while Walker and Sanchez are tied for seventh with 26 points, and Duran, Elliott, Ed Dabrowski, Garza, Grace and Stephanie Dabrowski are tied for eighth with 25 points. Albus is in ninth with 24 points and Sedberry rounds out the top 10 with 23 points.
