Week nine of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest is behind us and we have just three weeks of our contest remaining.
This week the top spot belongs to Gary Edwards, who finished with a mark of 17-3. We five contestants tie for second place with a mark of 16-4: JR Herrell, Mark Grace, Charlie Smith, Trevor Williams and Sam Castillo.
The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the game between the Jets and the Broncos, which was 25 points. Charlie Smith took second place with a guess of 31 points and JR Herrell took third place with a guess of 40 points, edging out Williams’ guess of 48 points, Sam Castillo’s guess of 42 points and Grace’s guess of 43 points.
In the high school ranks, Littlefield was shutout at home by Abernathy, 24-0, while Sudan shutout Crosbyton on the road, 42-0, and Olton fell to New Deal, 48-17. Springlake-Earth picked up a big win over Petersburg, 61-16, while Amherst defeated Hart, 3022, and Dumas knocked off Pampa, 21-7.
Canadian blasted Friona, 56-13, while Childress took care of Spearman, 41-7, and Brownwood defeated Estacado, 52-14. Permian edged out Frenship, 42-41.
In the college ranks, Oklahoma State held off Texas, 41-34, while Clemson edged out Syracuse, 2721, and Baylor took down Kansas, 35-23. Marshall defeated James Madison, 26-12, and Alabama downed Mississippi State, 30-6.
In the NFL, The Ravens held off a late push from the Browns, 2320, while the Commanders took down the Packers, 23-21, and the Raiders downed the Texans, 3820. The Seahawks defeated the Chargers, 37-23, and the Chiefs blasted the 49’ers, 44-23.
The rest of the scores for this week are as follows: Those who finished 15-5 this week were, Martin Duran, Stevy Smith, Tommy Cloninger, Alma Castillo, Richard Orozco, Larry Ashley, Ed Dabrowski and Floyce Pierce. 14-6 finishers this week were Lonnie Neinast, Johnny Rosemond, J.C. Orozco, Marcus Garcia, Thomas Blackstone, Marcelino Castillo, Teresa Dabrowski and Chris Ruiz, while Brenda Herrell, Ivan Estrada and Terrill Moorhead each finished 137 this week.
David Neinast, Donna Neinast, Jan Smith, Marcelino Garcia Jr., Dewayne Hayes, Oscar Sanchez and Jimmy Garcia each finished 12-8 this week, while Devin Garcia and Maria Pinon each finished 119 and Robin Elliott finished 10-10 this week.
In the overall standings, JR Herrell and Martin Duran are tied for first place with 126 points, while Brenda Herrell and David Neinast are tied for second place with 125 points and Edwards is in third place with 123 points. Lonnie Neinast and Rosemond are tied for fourth place with 122 points, while Donna Neinast and Jan Smith are tied for fifth with 121 points, and Estrada is in sixth with 120 points.
Grace, Stevy Smith and Garcia Jr. are tied for seventh with 1118 points, while Cloninger and Hayes are tied for eighth with 117 points. J.C. Orozco and Sanchez are tied for ninth place with 115 points and Moorhead rounds out the top 10 with 113 points.
