National Fallen Firefighters Memorial to Honor Fallen Firefighters May 3, 4
National Fallen Firefighters Memorial weekend occurs on May 3 and 4, honoring all firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty during the previous year. The commemoration weekend also acknowledges the courage and dedication of generations of firefighters, including those who continue to serve their communities.
During this weekend, firefighters stand outside of their stations at midday and hold a minute’s silence. A wreath-laying takes place at the National Firefighters Memorial by St Paul’s Cathedral with representatives from the FBU and the Firefighters Memorial Trust.
Similarly, thousands attend the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend ceremony in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial website hosts a database listing all firefighters being honored in this year’s ceremony.
The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial will host livestreams of the candlelight and memorial services throughout the weekend. Viewers may stream the candlelight service on May 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and watch the memorial service on May 4 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Another act of commemoration invites stations across the country to sound their sirens at noon to honor fallen firefighters.
