Tuesday afternoon, I had the opportunity to visit via telephone, with the three, District 1 Candidates for the Littlefield City Council.

First candidate, Ben Warren:

Ben grew up in Perryton, and graduated from Perryton High School, but moved to Littlefield in 1997. He has been on the Littlefield City Council four times in 20 years.

Ben has a son, Logan, age 20, who is a student at WTAMU, and a daughter, Peyton, age 25, who teaches in Dallas. Ben is also involved with the First United Methodist Church in Littlefield.

I asked Ben why he is seeking re-election to the Littlefield City Council, to which he replied: “I think the people of Littlefield deserve good representation in our local government, and I want to be their voice for all their interests. I’m one of the people here and I want what’s best for everyone.”

Ben had a closing statement: “I enjoy being on the City Council, and as I’m part of the people here in Littlefield, I want what is best for every single person here, not just specific people. I feel that funds from things that go on here, and money brought in here in Littlefield needs to go in a pot and be equally distributed. Things that happen here may not be in the best interest of everyone, and I’ll strive to represent everyone, and not just those in my District.

“I would like to add, anyone can feel free to call me anytime, if they have a concern, and I’ll listen and do my best to help them. I have asked for my cell phone number to be placed here and it’s (806)-632-2464. I encourage everyone to get out and vote and make your voice heard in the upcoming Elections.”

Second candidate, Eric Saenz:

Eric is a life-long resident of Littlefield, and graduated from Littlefield High School. He and his wife, Dorothy, are parents to three children, Randy Rene, Sasha, and Ericia. Eric and Dorothy are also partners in a local Dry Cleaning business here in Littlefield.

Eric has been involved in the Freedom Prison Ministry for the past five years and they visit prisons from Amarillo to Lamesa and all places in between. He also runs the Community Outreach called “Bible, Beans and Cornbread,” and he attends Trinity Church here in Littlefield.

I asked Eric why he is seeking election, to which he replied: “I’ve been in this community my entire life. I volunteer with “The Chain Gang for the Littlefield Wildcats,” and I’ll be the people’s voice.

Eric’s closing statement: “I was raised here, worked here, and I want to give back to the community and help fix things up, and help clean up lots, etc.”

Robert Nichols, the third candidate:

Robert is married to Alice, and they are parents to Adrian Douglas, Shricka Douglas, and Laquisha Harris. Eric grew up in Anton, and has been in Littlefield the past 40 years. Robert attended Wayland Baptist College for two years, and in 1980 joined the Army for 7-1/2 years of service to the U.S.A.

Robert serves as President of the Arts and Heritage Committee, and he is also President of the Juneteenth Committee.

Robert explains why he is seeking election: “I feel there is unfinished business here and I feel changes need to be made in the District, and I feel I can make those changes.”

Robert’s closing statement was: “If you want a change, vote for me, and I will make these changes.”
