County Commissioners hold Regular Meeting

The Lamb County Commissioners Court hosted its regular meeting on Monday, March 23, at the Lamb County Courthouse in Littlefield.

Present members included Lamb County Judge James DeLoach, Commissioner Precinct No. 1 Cory DeBerry, Commissioner Precinct No. 3 Danny Short, Commissioner Precinct No. 4 Lee Logan and Deputy County Hailee Saenz.

No comments were made during the public comment portion of the meeting.

Commissioners first dis-cussed agenda item four, which involved approving IGT funding for the Lamb Healthcare Center. A motion was made by Commissioner Lee Logan and seconded by Commissioner Danny Short. The funding was approved.

The court approved all bills, totaling $1,044,493.03, and payroll items: Lamb County payroll ending March 6, 2026, $178,465.79, and Lamb Healthcare Center payroll ending March 7, 2026, $256,077.36.

The Lamb County Library received a $600 donation from HEB for the Summer Reading Program, and the Olton Area Library received a $150 donation from Welling State Bank. A motion was made by Commissioner Cory DeBerry and seconded by Commissioner Danny Short. Commissioners approved both donations.

Lamb County Librarian Selena Ramirez received an invitation to attend the Institute of Museum and Library Services’ conference celebrating the 250th anniversary of America. A motion was made by Commissioner Danny Short and seconded by Commissioner Lee Logan. Commissioners approved Ramirez’s out-ofstate travel.

Agenda item seven, a consideration to draw names for the salary grievance committee, was moved to the next meeting’s agenda. No action was taken.

Commissioners organized to post a notice of the primary runoff elections taking place at the Lamb County Courthouse. Early voting starts May 18 and continues through May 22. Polling hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. between May 18 and 21, and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 22. Election Day will be on May 26, with polling hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. A motion was made by Commissioner Cory DeBerry and seconded by Commissioner Danny Short. Commissioners approved the notice for a runoff election.

4-H LifeSmarts qualifiers are headed to Florida to compete in the national competition, prompting Kathy Lostroh and Brandon Albus to seek funding for their travels. A motion was made by Commissioner Lee Logan and seconded by Danny Short. Commissioners approved the out- of- state travel.

Commissioners discussed whether to approve action on the Burty waterline in Precinct 1. A motion was made by Commissioner Danny Short and seconded by Commissioner Lee Logan. Commissioners approved action on the waterline.

4-H member Loren Campbell presented her reflections, findings and experience from her Costa Rica trip to commissioners. When asked by Commissioner Lee Logan how experiencing different cultures and languages affected her trip, Campbell said that although the cultural differences were confusing at times, there were ways to adapt.

“Overall, this has challenged me in ways to see the world and (showed) me that global changes are deeply connected,” Campbell said, “and that something like agriculture isn’t just about food–it’s about people’s survival and future.”

Discussing future agenda items, Judge James DeLoach received a letter of resignation from Becky DeBerry, Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, effective the last week of June. DeLoach said he plans to appoint Teresa Perez, who was the only candidate on the ballot for said position.

The Commissioners adjourned the meeting at 10:31 a.m.
