Commissioners hold Aug. 16th meeting

Lamb County Commissioners held their third meeting for August on Monday, Aug. 16, 2021, when they continue to work on the budget.

They are attempting to get it prepared for the Aug. 30 meeting when a public hearing is scheduled on the budget, and when the budget and the tax rate will be set to support it.

After Lamb County Judge James M. DeLoach called the meeting to order, he offered the invocation, then led the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags.

He asked for anyone who would like to make a comment on any of the agenda items, and when he found none, closed that item and opened the Consent Agenda.

Minutes from the Monday, Aug. 9, 2021 meeting were considered appropriate for action.

There were no budget and salary amendments and/or line-item transfers to be made.

Bills submittted by the County Auditor for payment included Lamb County’s total of $66,200.32 for bills.

There were no payrolls submitted for payment.

Departmental reports that were presented were considered ready for approval.

Commissioner Lee Logan made the motion, which was seconded by Commissioner Danny Short, to approve the consent agenda items, which passed unanimously.

Archive Fees approved

Lamb County Clerk Tonya Ritchie explained that the Archive Fees for the Lamb County Clerk’s office’s records for 2021-2022 “were about the same as last year’s.” The office is currently storing records for 1985-1995 on flash drive.

Debbie Long, Lamb County District Clerk also explained that their Archive Fees for the records for 2021-2022 “are basically the same as last year.

Commissioner Kent Lewis made the motion, and Commissioner Cory DeBerry sedConded the motion to approve their Archive Fees. The motion passed unamimously.

Sealed bids for Sheriff’s vehicles

Commissioners authorized the county to take sealed bids for a pickup, a Tahoe, and a Transport Van for the Lamb County Sheriff’s Department.

Judge DeLoach explained that trade-ins are not accepted when purchases are made through Buy Board.

Hospital report

Cindy Klein called to report she could not make it to the meeting, since she was busy at the hospital. She also reported that an architect for some of the hospital’s construction projects will be here next week to meet with the commissioners.

Extension Agent resigns

Lamb County Extension Agent Kyle Howard stood and told the commissioners he will be leaving in two weeks, to accept a position he could not turn down.

A special party is being planned to honor him.

Budget processes scheduled

Near the close of the regular business session, the budget was discussed during the future agenda items part of the schedule. Another budget work session began at 10:25 with many of the department heads, who remained at the meeting for discussions.
