Brenda Herrell wins Week 6 Football contest

Brend Herrell brought home first place this week in the week six edition of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest, finishing 19-1.

There were six contestants tied for second place with 18 points each: Bobby Cunningham, David Neinast, Donna Neinast, Jay Lee, Lyndel Evans and Marcus Garcia. The tie-breaker this week was the combined score between Meadow and Happy, which was 54 points.

Bobby Cunningham ended up in second place with a guess of 50 points, while Marcus Garcia finished third with a guess of 62 points.

There were several cancellations this week, including Littlefield vs. Big Spring, Spearman at Canadian and Springlake-Earth vs. Morton. We also had the wrong game for Shallowater, so those points were all given to all contestants.

Sudan won their Homecoming game over Plains on Friday, 46-14, while Olton took down Smyer, 54-28, for their Homecoming game.

Anton blasted Paducah, 56-6, in a game where Paducah was a heavy favorite, while Canyon shutout Levelland, 40-0.

Bushland throttled Estacado, 46-7, while Pampa edged out Perryton 41-35.

In the college ranks, Alabama took down Texas A&M, 52-24, while Ole Miss snuck by Kentucky, 42-41, and Air Force downed Navy, 40-7.

Kansas State defeated the Red Raiders, 31-21, while Georgia took down Auburn, 27-6.

In the NFL, Cleveland took care of business against the Cowboys, 49-38, while the Saints took down Detroit, 35-29. The Bills won by a touchdown over the Raiders, 30-23, while Baltimore took down Washington, 31-17, and The Chiefs won their Monday Night Football game over the Patriots, 26-10.

Those who finished 17-3 this week were, Devin Garcia, Floyce Pierce, Jan Smith, Jimmy Davis Jr., Jimmy Davis Sr., Johnny Rosemond, Junior Garcia, Kay Cloninger, Lonnie Neinast, Nancy Smith, Terrill Moorhead, Tommy Cloninger and Oscar Sanchez.

Contestants who finished 16-4 this week were Alma Castillo, Dewayne Hayes, Ed Dabrowski, Floyd Trevino, Larry Ashley, Mark Grace, Minnie Trevino, Missy Cunningham and Robin Elliott, while Danny Sanders, Evan Barrera, Ivan Estrada, Lucas Casas, Thomas Blackstone and Ronald Williams each finished 15-5.

JR Herrell finished 14-6 this week, whle Teresa Dabrowski and James Hood each finished 13-7.

In the overall standings, Lonnie Neinast sits alone in first place with 104 points, while David Neinast sits in second place with 101 points and Tommy Cloninger is in third place with 99 points.

Grace sits alone in fourth place with 97 points, while Pierce, Kay Cloninger, Minnie Trevino and JR Herrell are tied for fifth place with 96 points each.

Marcus Garcia, Nancy Smith, Stevy Smith, Floyd Trevino and Estrada are tied for sixth with 95 points each, while Lee and Jan Smith are tied for seventh with 94 points.

Rosemond is in eight place with 93 points, while Evans, Moorhead and Hayes are tied for ninth with 91 points. Bobby Cunningham and Donna Neinast round out the top 10, each with 90 points.
