“All good things…..well ya know! After almost 5 decades in a career that has shaped so much of my life, and meant so much to me, the time has come for me to enter the next chapter….retirement! This brings so many feelings to the surface – gratitude, reflections, and much more emotion than I ever thought possible. I was here before marriage and the birth of my sons, so this Cooperative has definitely seen me through.
When I look back over these years, what stands out most are not milestones, or the passage of time, but the people, the relationships, and the purposes that guide Lamb County Electric Coop. Coops are so much more than simply a way to provide power. They represent neighbors coming together to serve one another, and they bring strength to the communities they serve. Cooperatives are family, and I believe this to be the case with most Coops.
I love the Cooperative business model and what it stands for. Cooperatives are member owned and locally guided, created to serve communities rather than distant shareholders.
This has always felt right to me. I probably had been employed about a year when I just knew that I had embarked on a very special environment. It typically is people caring about one another and working together. Those seven Cooperative principles that we talk so much about – they truly are very important. That Cooperative spirit is something that has always been near and dear to my heart, and why this journey has meant so much to me.
I leave with a full heart of gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of something so wonderful. Gratitude for the people I have met along the way, and the many lasting relationships. Gratitude for the Cooperative values that remind us every day that our role is really about people and community.
As I embark on this next chapter of my life, I do so believing that Lamb County Electric Cooperative is in the hands of dedicated people that believe in the same values that have guided us for generations. My one wish would be that the Cooperative spirit and way of life never goes away. I truly hope my grandchildren will come to know what coops are when they become adults.
It is, of course, very bittersweet, but you don’t dedicate this many years to something, and then just simply walk away. I will miss it, but I am looking forward to spending more time and being more involved with my family, maybe doing some volunteer work, and possibly learning to play the current rage – Mahjong.
So, yes as the saying goes, “All good things must end”. I wish the Lamb County Electric Board of Directors, employees, and membership the very best always.”
