43rd Annual Olton Sandhills Celebration set for August 2-5

The 43rd annual Olton Sandhills Celebration is set for August 2 through 5.

Things will kick off Wednesady, Aug. 2nd, with an Open House at the Cavett Memorial Center from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Hamburgers sponsored by the Olton Volunteer Ambulance Association will be served at 6 p.m.

Gospel Singing will take place at 7:30 pm followed by the Chris Jones Ice Cream Social and Contest. Sandhills Sweetheart candidates will be presented during the evening.

There will also be an ice cream contest again this year. To sign up to bring ice cream and enter the contest, contact Tammy Smith at (806) 393-5476.

On Thursday, Aug. 3rd, the Pageant will take place at OHS Auditorium at 7 p.m. The admission fee is $3 per person. If you have questions about the pageant, call Robyn Stevenson at (806) 6858226.

On Friday, Aug. 4th, there will be a Volleyball Tournament starting at 6 p.m. The entry fee is $40 per team and the first and second place teams will receive a cash prize. The deadline to enter is Wednesday, August 2nd. To enter a team, call Lety Jimenez (806) 8696103.

A new event this year is the 3on- 3 Basketball Tournament, which will take place in front of The Haven. The starting time will depend on the number of entries. Entry is $25 per person ($75 per team + $25 per additional person), the proceeds of which go to the Olton Athletic Boosters. Contact Lindsey Nelson for more information at (806) 729-3574.

The Dog Show starts at the pavilion at 5 p.m. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. There is a $5 fee per dog entered. Proceeds will go to the Olton Underdogs and Alleycats. Call Amber DeBerry at (806) 685-0915 for more information.

A Cornhole Tournament will be at Stiles Horsehoe Park. Registration starts at 5 p.m. and the tournament begins at 6 p.m. Winners of the tournament will receive a cash prize. Contact Eddie Rios at (806) 240-4763 for more information.

Hamburgers sponsored by OVAA will be served at 6 p.m. at the Pavilion.

Vendor booths will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Booths will open back up from 5 p.m. to 11 pm. For more information contact Brittney Redwine at (806) 252-7251.

A Bake Sale and Cake Auction benefiting the Olton Sandcrawl Museum will be held at 6:30 p.m. before the dance.

The Dance will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. featuring DJ Ferly.

On Saturday, Aug. 5th, The Olton Lion’s Club will be serving breakfast from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Ambulance Station, which is located at 8th and Ave G.

The W.B. Dickenson Memorial Parade will begin at 10 a.m. and go down Main Street. Line-up begins at 9:30 a.m. at 2nd St. and Ave G. Awards will be given for the best entries: $200 for first place, $100 for second place, and $50 for third place. For more information, call Terry Martin at (806) 638-6684.

There will be an Open House at the Sandcrawl Museum from 11:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be Heritage Manor Tours by appointment only. Contact the Olton Area Library at (806) 285-7772 for more information. **At Stiles Park, we will have a couple of water slides for kids to go down. We will also have a couple of dry slides for those that do not want to get wet. Tickets will be $1 for one slide or a child can purchase a bracelet for $10 to be able to ride unlimited times on both rides. These will all be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There will be a Horseshoe Pitching Tournament at Stiles Horseshoe Park that will begin with registration at 11 a.m. and the first pitch will take place at 1 p.m. It is a double elimination tournament and the entry fee is $50 per team. The Joe Harrell Memorial Car Show is being organized and we encourage anyone to enter. They will ride in the parade and then park in the Wellington State Bank parking lot. Judging will take place about 11:15 a.m. The entry fee is $20 per car. We will be giving cash prizes to first, second and third place. There will be a Grist Mill Demonstration at the Museum from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Hamburgers sponsored by OVAA will be served, starting at noon at the Pavilion and again at 6 p.m.

Olton Lion’s Club is holding a fundraiser – Tennis Ball Drop. Tennis Balls can be purchased during Sandhills for $5 each. The tennis balls will be dropped on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the OCCA Pavilion. The dance will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. featuring Jason Nutt & Highway 70.

Raffle information – Raffle to benefit the OCCA will take place. The items to be raffled off are as follows: A handmade Knife valued at $250 will be raffled at $10 per ticket.

A Woodhouse Spa Gift Card valued @ $250 will be raffled at $10 per ticket.

An 18 ft. x 48 in. Pool valued at $400 will be raffled at $20 per ticket.

A handmade Fire Pit valued & $425 will be raffled at $20 per ticket.

$500 in Olton Bucks gift certificates to be used at OCCA business member businesses will be raffled at $25 per ticket or 5 tickets for $100.

The tickets will be raffled at the Saturday night dance featuring Jason Nutt & Highway 70. You do not need to be present to win.

People can buy tickets for any of the prizes at the Olton Chamber Office or from members of the Chamber Board of Directors.
