11 injured in mass shooting in Midland; deceased victim, suspect identified

A shooting in Midland, Texas, resulted in multiple injuries, and one dead, including the suspect.

On June 12 at around 8 a.m., the Midland Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement partners responded to reports of an active shooter in the 4600 block of West Wall Street.

Upon arrival, the suspect, now identified as Victor Mata Villarreal, 45, fired shots at officers and bystanders before barricating himself inside an abandoned veterinary clinic.

Following the standoff, Villarreal was found deceased inside the building at approximately 12:30 p.m. No officers were injured during the standoff.

Previously, Villarreal was wanted for attempted capital murder of a peace officer after he shot at an MPD officer during a vehicle persuit on June 10, 2026.

Midland Mayor Lori Blong confirmed 11 individuals were injured as a result of the shooting. DPS identified the deceased victim, Edward Randall Scott, 62.

In a statment posted to the City of Midland’s Facebook, Scott worked as an employee for the city and was described as a loving father and husband; most notably serving as an integral individual for the local and regional softball organizations.

As of June 15, 2026, West Wall Street and the intersection of Fasken Road to Loop 250 has been reopened, and the active shooter incident has been resolved, according to the City of Midland.
