“And if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.”

Isaiah 58:10 Have you ever wondered what your purpose here on earth is? It seems like we have a very long time to figure that our; however, if you have any age on you at all as you read this, you know that time passes by quickly! Yesterday I was in church and there was a little girl that it seems like just yesterday was brought in by her parents and there she was running around and saying hi to me! So in this lifetime that God has given us here on earth, how should we spend it?

People all over the world would have different answers for you. As a matter of fact, we might have hundreds of different ideas from people who read this paper. So who is right? Well, that is above my paygrade to determine who is living life right or wrong, but I will tell you that I think the word of God points us to a certain kind of life. That life is a life of love and service to the people around us. What I mean by that, is instead of it being all about you, I think God wants us to live all for Him, and all for others. John 15:13 says “greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” That is exactly what Jesus did for us, and it seems pretty clear that He wants us to follow his example and love others in this way.

So how can I do that you may ask? Well, you pray that God will open your eyes to opportunities that are around you that you can show the love of God in. It doesn’t have to be far away in another country, it could be right here in Littlefield. The leadership of our church believes there is a great need in Littlefield to help people that are hungry and do not have enough money to get food. So God gave us a vision to start a Community Wide Food Ministry. By community wide, we believe that the only way it can be successful is that the people of this community choose to help each other and spend themselves in such a way that no family in our town goes without food. It is a big undertaking, that will only work if God’s people and even those who haven’t come to believe in Him yet choose to love others and not just themselves. But here is the cool thing; as it says in the scripture “if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness.” What that means is that Littlefield will become a much cheerier and brighter place. A place full of hope, a place full of peace, a place full of love, and a place where everyone can just sense the Presence of The Lord!

This Wednesday at the chapel on Phelps and 14th our Community Food Ministry begins. I hope that you will pray and seek God’s direction in being a part and choose to spend some of that precious time called your life on behalf of others! If you have any questions about how this ministry works, just call 806-3854466 or better yet come by between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. and see for yourself. Know for sure, if you do, you will be blessed even more than you are right now. That is the way God works, He is the multiplier of blessings when we live out our purpose for His glory!
