On Thursday, Nov, 7, 2024, Lamb County 4-H sent several students to Lockney, Texas, to compete in the District 2 Pistol Shooting Competition.
Students from throughout the county represented three age groups: Juniors, Intermediates, and Seniors.
They competed against students from across the South Plains in three categories of competitive pistol shooting: Air Soft, Silhouette, and Smallbore (.22).
Each competition offered a chance to show off different shooting skills, and awards were given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category, with a Champion named over each age bracket.
Two young ladies showed off their shooting prowess and brought home some hardware: Cayton Redman, a fifth grade Sudan Elementary School student and daughter of Jason and Rickie Redman, competed in the Junior Age Group. She won second place in Air Pistol, first place in Smallbore, and scored as the Overall Champion.
Kealee Bussey, a junior at Littlefield High School and daughter of Brad and Cynthia Bussey, competed in the Senior Age Group. She won first place in Air Pistol, second place in Silhouettes, first place in Smallbore, and she also scored as the Overall Champion.
Each won a custom belt buckle for their performance.
Other members of the Lamb County Shooting Sports Club who placed in the competition included Garicyn Bigham, 3rd in Air Pistol, 1st in Silhouette, 2nd in Smallbore, and 2nd Overall; and Case Stone, 3rd in Air Pistol, 1st in Silhouette, and 2nd Overall. Many other members competed well and were excellent representatives of Lamb County 4-H. All the students and their families are especially thankful for Lamb County’s Ag Extension Agent, Brandon Albus, and their volunteer shooting coaches: Jeremy Newton, Nelda Blackwell, and Jude Smith.
