17th Wiseman Reunion set for July 23rd

The 17th Wiseman Reunion will be held on July 23th , 2022 in Lubbock in the Multiple Use Building of the South Plains church of Christ located at 6802 Elkhart Ave, Lubbock, Texas. The Reunion will begin at 9:00 AM—till.

The Wiseman Reunion honors the descendants of William Henry Wiseman (1843-1916) and Alice Melvina Townsend (1847-1939). Their Parents are: John S. Wiseman and Louisa Watkins, both born in SC and both died in Belton, Texas and James Madison Townsend and Frances “Fannie” Bowles, both born in Mississippi and both died in Lee County, Texas.

William Henry and Alice Melvina had 8 children as follows:

· Frances Adeline Wiseman Lane (Jesse Boreaugard Lane); 2. William Samuel Wiseman ( Mary Etta Adams) & (Maude Florence Warren); 3. James Townsend Wiseman ( Nancy Elizabeth Yielding); 4. Louisa Jennifer Wiseman Garner (Nathan Samuel Garner); 5. John Edward Wiseman (Martha Josephine Northcut); 6. Sarah Julia Wiseman Carpenter (Everett Lowell Carpenter); 7. Thomas Criss Wiseman (Leacia Ella Murry) (Alma A. Stephens); and 8. Georgia Pearl Wiseman Sellers (Robert Dee Sellers).

There will be an introduction of attendees, a recognition of those who have passed since our last Reunion, brief history, games, songs and some wild tales to be told. And, a catered luncheon will be provided with the registration fee.

Also, any Wiseman kin is very welcomed to attend and learn of your Heritage from a “White Slave” Thomas Wiseman who was sent from England in 1767 at the age of 17 to work on a “Southern Plantation”. Thomas served in the Rev War in the “Famous” Maryland’s 1 st Regt.’s “400” where only 12 survived the “Battle of Long Island”. Thomas served in 8 campaigns and at the battle of Camden, SC, he was sick and did not return to active duty and was considered a deserter. Thus, his final location was Edgefield county, SC where he and his wife Elizabeth died in October of 1825 leaving one son, Daniel Wiseman, with a large family.
