WILDCATS BLAST MULESHOE ON THE ROAD, 17-0

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team throttled the Muleshoe Mules, 17-0, on the road on Tuesday night in their first meeting of the season.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 2-0 in district play.

The Wildcats jumped out to a quick, 1-0, lead, before Chris Brown drew a walk. He took second on a pitch to Gus McNabb, before McNabb struck out swinging on a dropped third strike. Blake Green scored on a throw down to first by the catcher, as Brown advanced to third with the score, 2-0, with two outs.

Ethan Garcia, though, would strike out swinging to retire the side.

In the bottom half of the side, Garcia got Zach Hasley to ground out to Jeremiah Salazar at second base for out number one, and he got Jeremiah Barron to strike out looking for out number two. Elisar Cisneros grounded out to Salazar at second to end the inning.

Jonavan Weaver drew a lead-off walk in the top of the second inning, and Salazar singled through the right side, before Turner Heffington drew a walk to load the bases for Littlefield. Jordan Trevino singled on a dropped ball by Matt Fabela in right-center field, bringing in Weaver to make the score, 3-0

Ġreen hit a two-RBI single past third base to stretch their lead to, 5-0, and Trevino and Green advanced to third and second, before Ethan Hackler hit a sacrifice grounder to Barron at shortstop, who got the out at first, as Trevino scored to push their lead to, 6-0, with one out. Brown hit an RBI-double down the third-base line to extend the lead to, 7- 0, and McNabb followed it up with a shot to Barron at shortstop, who made a wide throw to first that pulled Elias Aguirre off the bag at first, scoring Green to make the score, 8-0. Joseph Salinas came on as the courtesy runner.

Salinas took second on a pitch and third on a past ball, before Garcia hit an RBI-double down the first-base line to keep the rally going, making the score, 9-0. Garcia took third on a past ball, before Weaver knocked him in with an RBI-single to center field, pushing their lead to, 10-0. Salazar singled through the right side and Heffington drew a walk to load the bases.

Trevino drew an RBI-walk to make the score, 11-0, and Green hit a shot to deep center field that was dropped by Fabela bringing in two runs to make the score, 13-0.

Trevino scored on a past ball, as Green advanced to third, as the Wildcats tacked on another run to make the score, 14-0. Hackler walked, but Browk struck out swinging for out number two and McNabb lined out to Cisneros at second base to retire the side.

Garcia made short work of the Mules in the bottom half of the side, as Uriel Vasquez and Sebastian Kirven struck out swinging and the following batter struck out looking to end the inning.

Kirven relieved Hasley on the mound for the Mules in the top of the third inning, as Garcia drew a lead-off walk to get the inning going for Littlefield. He went first to third on a bad throw down by the catcher that sailed into right field and Weaver drove him in with an RBI single to left field to make the score, 15-0.

Salazar struck out swinging and Heffington lined out to Barron at shortstop for out number two, before Trevino drew a walk. But, Alex Carrillo would strike out looking to retire the side.

Trevino relieved Garcia on the mound for Littlefield, as he gave up a lead-off walk to Fabela to give the Mules a base runner. Fabela took second on a pitch, before Judas Reyes struck out looking for out number one. Fabela was canned at third by Davin Saldana for out number two and Trevino go Chayton Caywood to strike out swinging to retire the side.

In the top of the fourth inning, PJ Cruz singled to left field and Brown followed it up with a moon shot to center field for a two-run homerun, his first of the year, making the score, 17-0. Cash Price grounded out to Cisneros at second base and Jaron Cabello grounded out to Barron at shortstop to retire the side.

In the bottom half of the side, Hasley singled past Price at second base, but Barron popped up to Trevino on the mound for out number one. Hasley took second on a wild pitch and third on a baulk by Trevino, before Cisneros flew out to Tavion Ivery in right field for out number two. Vasquez was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners for Muleshoe.

Vasquez was picked off at second by Saldana, as Cruz slapped the tag on him to end the inning.

Both teams were scoreless in the fifth inning, as the Wildcats went on to take down Muleshoe, 17-0.

Garcia started on the mound for the Wildcats, pitching two innings, while earning four strikeouts. Trevino came on in relief duty, pitching two innings and giving up just two walks, while earning two strike outs. Heffington pitched the final inning to close the game, earning one punch out, while giving up one walk.

The Wildcats hosted Lamesa on Saturday. Results were not available at press time. They will close out the first half of district play on Tuesday with their game against the Brownfield Cubs.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
