Wildcats run rule Perryton, 15-5

The Littefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball team run-ruled the Perryton Rangers on Friday, 15-5, in their first game of a doubleheader during the Line Drive Classic.

With the win, the Wildcats improved to 3-3 overall on the season.

Cesar hit a shot back at junior pitcher, Ethan Garcia, who got the out at first to open the contest and Taitur also grounded out to Garcia on the mound for out number two

Zane hit a ground rule double to left-center field, as Adrian came on as the courtesy runner. Adrian took third on a past ball, before Alonzo and Abe drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. However, Garcia got Levi to hit a grounder to senior, Gus McNabb, at second base, who flipped it to junior, Jordan Trevino, at second for the force out to retire the side.

Junior, Davin Saldana, struck out looking to open the bottom half of the inning, but senior, Blake Green, hit a shot to Pablo at shortstop, who made a high throw to Abe at first, giving the Wildcats a runner. Green took second on a pitch, before senior, Ethan Hackler, ripped an RBI-double down the third-base line to put Littlefield up, 1-0.

Hackler advanced to third on a baulk, before senior, Chris Brown, struck out looking for out number two. But, McNabb hit an RBIsingle under the glove of Abe at first base to make the score, 2-0. Garcia singled to right field and senior, Turner Heffington, ripped an RBI-double to Shallow center field to push their lead to, 3-0.

Senior, Cash Price, roped a twoRBI double to the left field fence to extend the lead to, 5-0, and Jonovan Weaver singled under the glove of Pablo at shortstop for an RBI to push their lead out to, 6-0.

Saldana, though, struck out swinging, as the two-out rally came to an end.

Garcia made quick work of the Rangers in the top of the second inning, as he got Ramon and Jax to strike out swinging and he got Preston to ground out to McNabb at second base to retire the side.

Green drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the second for the Wilcats and Hackler promtly cleared the bases with a two-run homerun off of the scoreboard to make the score, 8-0. Brown singled to left field, but McNabb popped up to Taitur at third, Garcia lined outt o Jax in right field and Heffington grounded into a fielder’s choice to shortstop to end the inning.

Cesar hit a grounder to McNabb at second base, who kept the ball in the infield, but couldn’t make the play at first, to open the third inning. Taitur singled past Hackler at third base and Zane was hit by a pitch to load the bases, as Adrian came on as the courtesy runner for the catcher.

Alonzo hit a grounder to Trevino at shortstop, who went home for the force out to cut the run and Garcia got Abe to strike out swinging, for out number two. Levi hit an RBI-single up the middle that was fielded by Trevino, but the throw to first was not in time, making the score, 8-1. Ramon struck out swinging and was thrown out at first on a dropped third strike to retire the side.

The Wildcats were unable to add any runs in the bottom half of the inning, as they went three-up-and-three-down.

Freshman, Brendon Bowman, releived Garcia on the mound and the lead off man, Jax, reached base on a throwing error by Trevino at shortstop to give the Rangers a runner. Bowman got Preston to strike out swinging and Saldana popped up and fired to second to get Jax out on the double play.

Cesar drew a walk and Taitur singled through the left side, before Zane ripped an RBI-single up the middle to cut the lead to, 8-2, as Adrian came on as the courtesy runner. Bowman got Alonzo to strike out swinging to retire the side.

Green led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo homerun into the trees in left field to make the score, 9-3. Hackler followed it up with a double to left-center field as Levi was relieved by Pablo on the mound for the Rangers.

McNabb drew a walk to load the bases and Garcia a two-RBI double to center field on an error by Abe, pushing their lead out to, 11-2. Heffington struck out swinging for out number one and Bowman was tagged out by Levi on a dropped third strike for out number two. Trevino drew a walk to load the bases and Saldana promptly unloaded them with a grand slam over the left field fence to extend their lead to, 15-2.

Green was hit by a pitch, but Hackler popped up to Taitur behind third base to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, Abe struck out swinging and was tagged out by Saldana on a dropped third strike for out number one. Levi flew out to Garcia in right field, but Heet was hit by a pitch to give the Rangers a runner.

Heet took second on a wild pitch and Izzy hit an RBI single to left field to trim the lead to, 15-3. Edwin followed it up with a two-run homemn over the trees in left field making thescore, 15-5. Cesar hit a chopper up the middle that was fielded by Hackler, but the throw to first was late, giving the Rangers another runner. But, Bowman got Taitur to strike out swinging to end the game.

Garcia started on the mound for the Wildcats pitching three innings, giving up one run and three walks, while earning four strikeouts. Bowman closed out the final two innings, giving up four runs and two walks, while earning four strikeouts.
