Ogallala Quilt Festival committees and quilters are steadily gearing up for the annual event, with the deadline for entering now past and the first 200 entries accepted.
Other important deadlines approaching include March 13 for registering for classes and reservwww. ing meal tickets for special event dinners requiring reservations. Scholarship nominations are due on March 15; applications can be found at the Ogallala Quilters website.
On April 4, the Ogallala Awards Dinner will be held, and April 5, Fantastic Friday Night is scheduled.
Fantastic Friday will feature Ruth Ann Berry, author, patterns designer and quilter. Berry is the author of “Bargello, Quilts in Motion”, “Braided Bargello”, and “Simplified 3D Quilts.” She has more than 50 individual quilt patterns available at major distributors throughout the world. Her focus is on composing quilt patterns designed to create the impression of motion and depth, especially Bargello and other threedimensional or geometric styles. She owns and operates a smalltown quilt shop and travels extensively to quilt shows and teaching engagements.
The OQS quilt auction will also be held at the Fantastic Friday event.
The Ogallala Quilters’ Society began in February 1997, with eight “founding” board members and $80 dollars. Since that time, the society has grown into a viable organization, headquartered in Dimmitt, the festival is held each April, with in-kind donations and many volunteer hours. The society has provided feature teachers, money for prizes, offered numerous classes, given free demonstrations, gathered together unique antique quilts, and entertained hundreds of visitors each year.
