Week 10 of the Lamb County Leader-New’s annual football contest, was a high-scoring affair, where finishing 17-3, didn’t even get you on the podium this week.
This week, J.C. Orozco, JR Herrell and Juan Garza and Lonnie Neinast all tied for first place each finishing 18-2. The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of the Dolphins and Patriots, which was 48 points. J.C. Orozco got the closest to the tie-breaker with a guess of 49 points to take first place.
We had a tie for second place, with both Lonnie Neinast and JR Herrell guessing 50 points on the tie-breaker to split the second and third place prizes evenly, edging out Garza, who guessed 40 points.
In the high school ranks, Littlefield came up just short in their district match-up with Idalou on Friday, 39-26, while Springlake-Earth took care of business against Lorenzo, 61-15, and Olton handled Tahoka, 62-48. Amherst 45’ed Cotton Center, 48-0, while Sudan blasted Bovina on the road, 40-18.
Petersburg took down Anton, 70- 27, while Rider defeated Plainview, 49-16, and Randall held off Hereford, 27-20. Bushland took down Dalhart, 48-14, while Legacy took down Midland High, 35-6.
In the college ranks, Oregon won a conference match-up over Utah, 35-6, while Washington held off Stanford, 42-33, while Notre Dame throttled Pittsburgh, 58-7. Tennessee edged out Kentucky, 33-27.
In the NFL, the Eagles edged out the Commanders, 38-31, while the Cowboys blasted the Rams, 43-20, and the Vikings took care of the Packers, 24-10. the Ravens held off the Cardinals, 31-24, while the Panthers snuck by the Texans, 15-13.
Those who finished 17-3 this week were Martin Duran, Brenda Herrell, Alma Castillo, Sam Castillo and James Hood, while those who finished 16-4 this week were Johnny Rosemond, Richard Orozco, Jonathan Magallanes, Donna Neinast, Dewayne Hayes, Larry Ashley and Mark Grace.
15-5 finishers this week were Tommy Cloninger, David Neinast, Ivan Estrada, Jan Smith, Oscar Sanchez, Charlie Smith, Terrill Moorhead and Robin Elliott, while Stevy Smith, Maria Pinon, Thomas Blackstone and Ronnie Martin each finished 14-6. Ed Dabrowski finished 13- 7, while Teresa Dabrowski finished 12-8.
In the overall standings, Duran sits alone at the top of the mountain with 146 points, while Brenda Herrell and Rosemond are tied for second place with 143 points and JC Orozco and Richard Orozco are tied for third place with 142 points each. Cloninger and Martin are tied for fourth with 141 points.
Lonnie Neinast and Magallanes are tied for fifth with 139 points each, while David Neinast is in sixth with with 138 points and Donna Neinast is in seventh with 135 points. Estrada and Jan Smith are tied for eighth with 134 points each, while Alma Castillo, Sam Castillo and Hayes are tied for ninth with 132 points and Sanchez rounds out the top 10 with 131 points.
