As the official Veterans’ Day on November 11, 2022 approaches, memorial services honoring the veterans of Americas have already begun.

The first event was presented on Sunday November 6, 2022 by the Lamb County Veterans’ Memorial under the direction of Kim Beasley with music provided by Jimmie Garcia. Bunting decorations were hung by Debbie McCain.

Prior to the memorial ceremony a barbecue lunch was provided by Robert Nichols at the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church from 12:30 until 2:00. Desserts were provided by the 4H Club. Members Grant and Ryan Muller along with Janet Muller served the lunch.

The memorial service began at 3:00pm as Kim Beasley welcomed those attending and initiated the presentation of the colors. The Littlefield Fire Department Honor guard commanded by Fire Chief Jaime Grey presented the colors and members of the 4H Club raised the colors above the memorial. Kim Beasley led the Pledge of Allegiance. She then gave a brief speech on the devotion, tenacity, and courage required to serve in the military forces of the United States.

The main speaker for the event was Mike Woods, Senior Minister of the Sudan Baptist Church. Pastor Woods did not serve in the military, and was concerned when his daughter decided to enlist in the Army. He could not imagine how his fragile young daughter would make it through basic training. Not only did she make it through, he said” she came through with a confidence, strength, and purpose he had not imagined.” He described watching her take her oath as one of the proudest moments of his entire life.

Following Pastor Woods presentation. The audience was asked to stand as the songs of each branch of the United States Military were played followed by “God Bless America”.

The colors at the podium were then escorted from the venue by the Fire Department Honor Guard. At the conclusion of the memorial service attendees were invited to enjoy refreshments provided by the 4H Club.
