Supt. Mike Read gives update on New High School construction

I trust your summer is going well! It is hard to believe we are less than three weeks away from the start of another school year. We will be having our preregistration on Tuesday, August 1 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Wildcat Gymnasium. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to get your child(ren) enrolled for the 20232024 school year. If you have any questions, please contact your building principal for specific details, etc. School officially starts on Monday, August 14. As we begin a new school year, please be cognizant of the school zones (20 mph) as students will be anxiously arriving to school and may not be paying attention at crosswalks. Again, please slow down and watch for kids! Thank you for your attention to this matter!

The construction of the new high school is in its infant stages. Teinert Construction has fully mobilized and begun construction of the new Littlefield High School Facility. The current ongoing scopes of work include civil site work, utilities, and structural foundations for the new High School. The existing softball field and site demolition have already been completed and the building pad that will serve the new high school has also been completed.

The utilities that will eventually serve the new high school are 50% complete and concrete piers are 10% complete. Despite heavy rains during the month of May, construction was able to stay mostly on schedule. Ongoing scopes of work that are scheduled to be completed within the coming month include the water main and fire suppression main that serve the new high school, 50% of the concrete piers serving the new high school and parking lot remediations to the existing parking lots that currently serve the campus.

Underground plumbing and electrical lines are also being installed as concrete piers and foundations are placed which will continue into September. Teinert is also focused on the fabrication of structural steel, pre-engineered metal building components and procuring concrete reinforcement. Structural steel is currently scheduled to be delivered during the month of November 2023, which is also when the building foundations are to be completed. Vertical construction will start towards the end of 2023, and finish completely at the end of 2024.

I would like to thank Kain Alexander who is the field superintendent with Teinert Construction for adding valuable information to this article.

I will be writing another article prior to the beginning of school that will feature our new teachers to Littlefield ISD and update you on any development regarding construction.

PROUD TO BE A WILDCAT!
