Littlefield High School Band student selected as Texas All-State Musician

Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, LHS student Edwin Pompa-Gallegos earned a seat in the ATSSB Texas All-State Band, at contests at Levelland High School.

This process began in late November with over 70,000 students entering this competition. Edwin, a very competitive student, has earned a seat in this band for the 4th consecutive year. The ATSSB organization will present all 3-year all state band students with a $500 scholarships and all 4- year all state band students with a $2,000 scholarships, which includes Littlefield’s Edwin Pompa-Gallegos.

Edwin will perform with the ATSSB All State Symphonic Band Saturday morning at the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center in Downtown San Antonio. When Edwin was asked how he felt about this honor he’s earned for the 4th time, he said: “All state is a once in a lifetime experience. The hard work and effort required is immense, but making it makes the whole time worthwhile. Being able to compete and perform with different students from around Texas is a time like no other and it’s a journey I will remember for years to come.”

High school students selected to perform in the All-State concerts have competed through auditions to qualify at the state level. All-State is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. 1,875 students are selected through a process that began with over 70,000 students from around the state vying for this honor.

Edwin will participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally-recognized conductors during the TMEA/ATSSB Clinic and Convention. The performance of these students for thousands of attendees, bring this convention to a close.

Littlefield’s music region of ATSSB, Region 16, will present a $400 scholarship to the all staters from this region.
