Motorcyclist injured in Tuesday afternoon accident

Littlefield EMS, Police, and DPS responded to a motorcycle versus vehicle accident Monday afternoon on Highway 84 Southwest of Littlefield.
According to Littlefield Police Chief Ross Hester, 26-year-old of Frank Espinoza of Littlefield was operating his Hyabusa 1300cc, and apparently, was racing a black Mercedes with New Mexico registration headed westbound on Highway 84.
Espinoza crashed into the back of a Jeep Cherokee also traveling westbound on Highway 84 while racing the Mercedes. Hester said the Jeep was traveling the legal speed limit which was the reason Espinoza crashed into the back of the Jeep.
The impact caused the driver of the Jeep to lose control, and caused a chain events with the Jeep broad-sliding and rolling at least one to two times and coming to a rest in the north ditch. The two occupants of the Jeep were not injured.
Hester said Espinoza was transferred to University Medical Center in Lubbock with incapacitating injuries.
The Littlefield Chief of Police said the driver of the Mercedes was stopped in Bailey County and arrested. The charges that person is facing were not yet available.
Hester said the Mercedes was identified using photos from witnesses at the scene.
The accident is still under investigation, and more details would be released when they become available.
