LJHS tennis competes at District Tourney

Littlefield Junior High tennis players competed in the Junior High District Tournament on May 1st.

The girls’ doubles team of Mahalia Huey and Nevaeh Williams took third place in the girls’ doubles bracket, as they defeated a Friona team in the first round, but lost to Muleshoe in the second round. They beat the team of Ashtyn Parker and Brynna Ray for third place.

Regional Track Competitors

SCHOOL RECORD – The Sudan boys’ varsity 4x200-meter relay team of (L-R): Austin Conley, Christian Montes, Ruben Rodriguez and Ethan Pendergrass placed fourth in the event at the Region I-2A Regional Track Meet this past weekend, which was held at Ratliff Stadium. The team set a new school record in the event with a time of 1:31.84.

Wildcats shutout in season finale against Mustangs

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity baseball teams’ season came to an end Wednesday afternoon as they were shutout by the Shallowater Mustangs, 11-0.

The Wildcats finish the season 4-16 overall, 2-8 in district play.

Nick Mata started on the hill for the Wildcats, giving up seven runs, while earning one strikeout in one and 1/3 innings of work. Colton Campbell came on in relief duty pitching one and 2/3 innings giving up four walks and one run, while earning two strikeouts. Nick Garcia closed the game pitching the final two innings, giving up three runs and one walk.

Lady Cats doomed by errors in final bout against Idalou

The Littlefield Lady Cats season came to an end on Saturday, as they were doomed by errors in a, 25-8 loss to Idalou on senior day.

The Lady Cats finished the regular season with a mark of 9- 15-1 overall, 3-7 in district play.

Tiffini Lopez started and finished the game for the Lady Cats, pitching three and 1/3 innings, giving up six runs and one walk, while earning two strikeouts. Geyah Garza pitched one and 2/ 3 innings, giving up 19 runs and 10 walks.

Sudan sending six to Regional Track Meet

The Sudan varsity track teams competed at Abernathy this past Thursday in the Area Meet, with six athletes qualifying for Regionals in six events including the boys’ 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams.

Hannah Miller brought home the lone gold medal for Sudan in the girls’ shot put, taking first place with a throw of 32-07.25.

The sprint relay team of Chris Schovajsa, Christian Montes, Ruben Rodriguez and Austin Conley placed third, clocking a time of 44.76. Ethan Pendergrass and Joe Limon will be alternates for the race.

Lady Cats fall short against Slaton, 5-1

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team fell short in their second district meeting of the season with the Slaton Tigerettes on Monday, 5-1.

With the loss the Lady Cats fall to 9-14-1 overall, 3-6 in district play.

Junior, Tiffini Lopez, started in the circle for the Lady Cats pitching four and 2/3 innings, giving up four runs and three walks, while earning three strikeouts. Freshman, Geyah Garza, came on in relief pitching one and 1/3 innings, giving up run, while earning one strike out.

Springlake-Earth varsity track teams garner Area championships

The Spriglake-Earth Wolverines and Lady Wolverines’ varsity track teams were crowned Area champions on Tuesday as they took first place at the Area Track Meet which was held at Vega.

The girls totaled 131 points, while the boys finished with 170 points overall. The boys had 15 athletes qualify for Regionals in 20 events and the girls had eight athletes qualify for Regionals in 11 events.

Angel Darden took first place in the girls’ high jump, clearing the bar at 4’10”. She also took first place in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 12.99; first in the triple jump, leaping a distance of 31’08” and was part of the 4x200-meter relay quartet, which also included Jaden DeLeon, Osmara Reyes and Tatum Hood. They finished the race in first place, combing for a time of 1:55.05.
