Lady Cats win nail-biter over Post, 38-34

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team won their first home game of the season over the Post Lady Lopes, 38-34. In the first quarter, Nautica Espinoza drew a shooting foul on Miranda Perez; she made both free throws, giving the Lady Cats an early, 2-0 lead.

Addison Jenkins tied the game with a lay-up, but Espinoza scored a putback off of her own miss, making the score, 4-2, with 6:11 to play in the first quarter. Alijah Jouett knocked down a jumper from the right wing off of the assist from Trinity Ayala and Courtney Reed drew a shooting foul on Perez with 3:14 to play in the quarter.

Wildcats drop road contest at Levelland, 63-54

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team dropped their contest on the road on Saturday to the Levelland Lobos, 63-54. The Wildcats were able to jump out in front early as sophomore, Daniel Stinson, heaved an outlet pass down court to sophomore, Jayden Longoria, for a lay-up, making the score, 2-0, with 7:22 to play in the first quarter.

 

Reid O’Connor answered with a three from the left elbow for Levelland, but Littlefield responded as J’Shun Davis launched an outlet pass down court to Stinson for a fast break lay-up, making the score, 4-3. O’Connor buried another three from the right wing, but J’Shun Davis answered with a jumper from the right elbow, tying the game, 6- 6. With 5:11 to play in the quarter, O’Connor drew a shooting foul on Stinson and split the attempts, giving the Lobos a one-point advantage, 7-6.

Nettes fly past Lady Dogs, 47-19

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team stayed undefeated on Tuesday as they took down the Anton Lady Dogs on the road, 47-19.

The Nettes improve to 5-0 overall, while the Lady Dogs fall to 0-4 overall on the season.

Selena Hernadnez opened the first quarter with a put-back off of the miss by Natalie Hinojosa, giving Anton a, 2-0 lead.

Bulldogs run away from Hornets, 41-31

The Anton Bulldogs’ varsity basketball team took their home-season opener over the Sudan Hornets on Tuesday, 41-31.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 1-0, while the Hornets fall to 0-1 overall on the season.

Elijah Alafa got things rolling in the first quarter for Anton as he dropped in a lay-up, giving the Bulldogs a, 2-0 lead with 6:18 to play in the first quarter.

Sudan falls to Eagles in first round, 44-6

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team’s season came to an end at Lobo Stadium in Levelland on Friday night as they fell to the Seagraves Eagles, 44-6, in the bidistrict round of the play-offs.

Seagraves struck first in the first quarter with a seven-yard rushing touchdown, taking a, 7- 0 lead into the second quarter.

They found the end zone again to begin the second quarter, this time on a four-yard rush. Sudan would strike back as senior, Austin Conley, punched it in from the one-yard line. The two-point conversion try was no good for Sudan, leaving them down, 14-6.

Sanders earns All-Tournament Team selection

The UIL All-Tournament Selection for 2017 3A Region I Volleyball Championship Team was awarded to Samantha Sanders of Shallowater.

Samantha is the libero for the Shallowater varsity volleyball team. Samantha, formerly of Littlefield is the daughter of Robbie Sanders and the late Lori Ann Sanders.

Fillies fall at home to Mulehsoe, 74-35

The Olton Fillies’ varsity basketball team fell at home on Tuesday to the Muleshoe Lady Mules, 74-35.

With the loss, the Fillies fall to 1-1 overall on the season.

Muleshoe won the tip-off and scored a quick lay-up, but Olton answered back with a three by Aaliyah Washington from the right wing, making the score, 3-2, with 7:38 to play in the first quarter.

Yvonne Diaz scored a lay-up to regain the lead for the Lady Mules and Alyssa Wheeler buried a three from the left elbow, making the score, 7-3, as Olton took a time out to slow down Muleshoe’s momentum.

Out of the break, Mackenzie Olivarez drew a shooting foul on Brooke Garza and made good on both attempts, trimming the lead to, 7-5.

Amherst meets the end of the road against Petersburg

The Amherst Bulldogs’ varsity football team fell short in their comeback efforts against Petersburg on Friday at New Home, 58-27, as their season came to an end in the 1A Six-Man Division II Bi-District round of the playoffs.

The Buffaloes elected to receive to begin the contest and were able to cap off their opening drive with a three-yard touchdown run by Tristan Garza with 8:06 to play in the first quarter. The kick after by JP Nesler was good, putting Petersburg up, 8-0.

Amherst lined-up for the kick return, but an onside kick try was fumbled by the Bulldogs and recovered by Jesus Alvarado at the Amherst 34-yard line.

Bulldogs set to take on Buffaloes in first round

The Amherst Bulldogs’ varsity football team was crowned the district champions of District 3 1A Six Man Division II.

The Bulldogs finished the regular season 7-2 overall, 4-0 in district play.

Amherst will travel to New Home on Friday to take on the Petersburg Buffaloes in the Bidistrict round of the playoffs.
