Sudan Nettes fall to Portales, 47-40

After defeating Lazbuddie in the first round of the Wildcat Classic, the Sudan Nettes fell to Portales, 47-40. Portales scored the first four points of the game, before Ashton Sawyer scored Sudan’s first points of the game. Portales scored again, but Sudan responded with a basket from Madi Edwards and a couple of free throws from Sawyer. Portales scored three more points, and led 10-6 at the end of the first  quarter.

Littlefield whips Whitharral, 64-34

The Littlefield boys’ basketball team opened the Wildcat Classic with a 64-34 victory against Whitharral. Mark Reed began the game with a basket, but Whitharral quickly tied the game. After a couple of free throws from De’Vonte Mathis, Whitharral tied the game again. A three-pointer from Josh Culpepper gave Littlefield the lead for good. Whitharral moved back within one, but a bucket from Ty Smith put the lead back at three.

Sudan clobbers Seagraves

The Sudan boys’ basketball team notched a blowout win against Seagraves, Tuesday night, to move to 5-3 on the season. A free throw from Ty Shaw and a lay-up by Tanner Fisher gave Sudan an early 3-0 lead. Seagraves went on a quick 5-0 run before Stephen Schovajsa scored to tie the game. A couple of baskets from Fisher gave Sudan a 9-5 lead. The Eagles tied the game once more, before Brandon Lock scored on a breakaway lay-up, to give Sudan the lead for good.

Lady Bulldogs beat Whiteface

Sierra Green races down the court during Amherst’s 42-34 win against Whiteface. Green had nine points, six rebounds, and three steals.

The Amherst Lady Dogs pulled out a victory against the Whiteface Lady Lopes on Tuesday night. The Lady Dogs were led by Daquandra Simmons, who finished the contest with a gamehigh 17 points. She was joined in double figures scoring by Zulema Delgado who netted 13 points in the win. Amherst jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the Lady Lopes and never surrendered the lead though the Lady Lopes cut the lead to one-point multiple times.

Wildcats fall to Brownfield, 63-52

Mark Reed prepares to shoot a free throw during Littlefield’s 63-52 loss to Brownfield. Reed scored 25 points and had 10 rebounds. The Wildcats fell to 4-4 on the season with the loss.

In the first round of the Dimmitt Tournament, the Wildcats fell to Brownfield for the second time, to drop to 4-4 on the season. The game started well for Littlefield. Josh Culpepper scored the first points of the game. Mark Reed and Dakota Gage combined for seven straight points, and Littlefield quickly led 9-2. Brownfield came back though, going on an 8-2 run. Littlefield led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Lady Cats lose versus Nazareth

The Lady Cats fell to Nazareth, Thursday night, in the first round of the Dimmitt Tournament, to drop to 7-5 on the season. The game started poorly for the Lady Cats as they found themselves down 12-0 to Nazareth in the first quarter. A three-pointer from Alyssa Gregory finally got Littlefield on the board, and Nazareth led 12-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Springlake-Earth boys win Whitharral Tournament

The Springlake-Earth boys’ basketball team won the Whitharral Tournament, on Saturday. They went 3-1 in the tournament
and improved to 7-1 on the season. Monroe Luther was named Tournament Most Valuable Player and Isiah Trevizo was name to the All-Tournament Team. The Wolverines began the tournament with a 52-36 win over Lubbock Roosevelt.
