Lady Cats fall to Fillies in Shallowater, 57-17

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team fell to the Fillies in Shallowater on Friday, 57-17.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 5-15 overall, 1-4 in district play.

In the first quarter, the Fillies got out to a, 6-0 lead as Jordyn Aragon picked up a steal and was fouled on a fast break attempt by Geyah Garza. She made both free throws and Cailyn Breckel followed it up with a lay-up in the lane, making the score, 4-0.

Wolverines, Lady Wolverines stumble against New Home

The Springlake-Earth Wolverines and Lady Wolverines’ varsity basketball teams fell to New Home on Tuesday. The Wolverines lost to the Leopards, 92-62, while the Lady Wolverines fell to the Lady Leopards, 55-23. The Wolverines fall to 3-7 overall, while the Lady Wolverines slip to 2-14 overall on the season.

Olton Mustangs takes fourth place at Caprock Classic

 

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team competed in the 59th annual FiberMax Caprock Classic last weekend in Lubbock where they finished fourth in the Double-T Smiles bracket. In their tournament opener last Thursday against Borden County, the Mustangs won a thriller, 64- 63. Olton jumped out to a four-point lead in the first quarter, 18-14, with eight points from Nabor Canchola and six points from Zach Ramage.

 

The Mustangs were outscored, 24-11, in the second quarter, despite nine points from Ramage, making the score, 38-29, going into the locker room at halftime. The Mustangs netted 21 points in the third quarter, but trailed Borden County, 55-50, going into the final quarter.

Lady Cats finish fourth at Wildcat Classic

The Littlefield Lady Cats varsity basketball team fell to the Sundown Roughettes, 43-26, on Saturday, finishing in fourth place at the Wildcat Classic basketball tournament.

The Lady Cats went 1-2 in tournament play, making their record 5-14 overall coming into the new year.

Wildcats fall in thirller against Lamesa, 71-70

The Littlefield Wildcats varsity basketball team lost a thriller against Lamesa on Friday night, 71-70, in the second round of the Wildcat Classic basketball tournament.

Ryan Aguilar got the game going with a lay-up for Lamesa, but the Wildcats answered back as, Jayden Longoria dropped in a layup off of the assist from Christ Douglas to tie the game, 2-2.

Lady Cats fall short against Friona, 40-33

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team fell to Friona in a close bout on Friday at home, 40-33.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 4-12 overall, 1-3 in district play.

Geyah Garza was fouled on an attempt by Jayci Trevino to open the game. She split the free throws, giving the Lady Cats a, 1-0 lead.

Jayci Weldon grabbed a steal under their own basket and was fouled on an attempt by Jayci Trevino. She made both free throws, stretching their lead to, 3-0, with 7:18 remaining in the opening quarter.

Erica Barrera dropped in a layup for Friona and on their next possession, Mariah Trevino was fouled on an attempt by Garza. She made both free throws, tying the game, 3-3, but on the other end, Weldon knocked down a jumper from the left wing off of the assist from Daniella Solis, making the score, 5-3, with 5:27 remaining in the first quarter.

Wildcats clobber Chieftains, 84-35

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team routed the Friona Chieftains, 84-35, at Wildcat Gym on Friday to remain unbeaten in district play.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 7-9 overall, 2-0 in district play.

The Wildcats came out of the gates strong in the first quarter as Jayden Longoria scored a lay-up off of the assist from Daniel Stinson for the games’ first points.

J’Shun Davis drained a three from the top of the key and Chris Douglas followed it up with a three from the right elbow off of the assist from Longoria, making the score, 8-0, with 5:11 to play in the opening quarter.

Douglas picked up a steal and tossed it ahead to Jonathan Davis for a lay-up, making the score, 10-0, as Friona called a time out with 4:48 to play in the first quarter.
