Lady Cats drop close contest to River Road at Shallowater

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell short of a victory in their final pool game on Friday against River Road as they fell to the Lady Cats, 25-27 and 22-25.

Bella Wilkins opened the match with a serve for River Road, but it was quickly killed by senior, Ari Villafranco for a Littlefield point. River Road, though, would even the set on the next play as Brittany Sotelo scored a tip kill over Villafranco, making the score, 1-1.

The Lady Cats went 0-3 in pool play on Friday, as they await their opponent in the Bronze & Consolation bracket.

LCLN Football Contest returns August 26th

Two-a-days begin on Monday in the state of Texas and with that comes the annual Lamb County Leader-News football contest.

The first week of the contest will include 10 high school football games and 10 college football games.

Jake Vella added as LJHS boys coach

Jake Vella, a Collinsville High School graduate, joins the Littlefield coaching staff this year as a junior high coach. Vella will be graduating from Texas Tech on Aug. 11th as he gets ready for his first coaching job at Littlefield Junior High. “I like to hang out with friends and watch the Rangers and Mavericks any chance I can get,” he said. “I’m pretty laid back, I don’t really do much except hang out with friends.” Vella talked about what brought him to Littlefield, saying, “Once I got to Lubbock, west Texas just felt like home, honestly. I just want to stay in the area.

 

I like the facilities and the people I have met. I like Littlefield a lot.” He added, “Since it’s my first job, I’m just looking forward to coaching and getting to know all of the kids and my co-workers. I’m just really excited and hope it is a good year

Tyler Goodwin looks to help continue the tradition at LHS

Tyler Goodwin, an Ira High School graduate, is joining the Littlefield coaching staff, where he will be coaching football, basketball and baseball.

He went to Texas Tech University where he earned a Ranch Management degree before doing alternative certifications to get into coaching.
