Wildcats overcome slow start; down Mules, 50-41

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team overcame a slow start on Friday to hold off the Mules in Muleshoe, 50- 41.

With the victory, the Wildcats improve to, 17-13 overall, 11-2 in district play.

Andrew Valdez nailed a deep two from the left elbow to open the scoring for Littlefield in the first quarter and J’Shun Davis heaved an outlet pass down court to Chris Douglas for a quick lay-up, giving the Wildcats a, 4-0 lead.

UNDEFEATED DISTRICT CHAMPS – The Springlake-Earth Lady Wolverines Junior High Basketball team finished the season on Monday as undefeated district champions with a mark of 11-0.

Lady Cats fall to Idalou on senior night

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team fell on senior night to the Idalou Lady Cats, 58-25.

With the loss, the Lady Cats end the season with 7-22 overall mark, 3-11 in district play.

Wildcats overcome slow start to down Eagles, 60-48

The Littlefield Wildcats varsity basketball team overcame a rough first half of play on Friday to take down the Roosevelt Eagles on the road, 60-48. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 15-13 overall, 9-2 in district play.

The Wildcats struggled on both sides of the floor in the first half, with J’Shun Davis picking up two early fouls. Jayden Longoria dropped in a lay-up off of the assist from Andrew Valdez to open the game for Littlefield and J’Shun Davis knocked down a jumper from just inside the free-throw line off of the assist from Jonathan Davis, making the score, 4-0, with 5:38 to play in the opening quarter.

Lady Cats drop road contest to Lady Eagles, 51-32

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team dropped their second meeting of the season to the Roosevelt Lady Eagles on Friday, 51-32. With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 7-21 overall, 3-10 in district play. Bre sanchez converted six consecutive free throws after drawing three straight shooting fouls on the Lady Cats, giving the Lady Eagles a, 6-0 advantage to open the game. Nautica Espinoza scored a lay-up off of the assist from Geyah Garza to get the Lady

 

Cats on the board, but Sanchez answered with a lay-up, making the score, 8-2, with 4:02 to play in the opening quarter. Espinoza scored a lay-up off of the assist from Daniella Solis, but Kaleigh Ford answered with a jumper from the left wing, extending their lead to, 10-4. The Lady Cats were called for a five-second call as Trinity Ayala couldn’t find anyone to inbound the ball to

lady cats drop heart-breaker at Friona, 28-27

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team dropped a heart breaker to the Friona Squaws on Friday after leading the entire game. They fell in the final minute of the contest, 28-27. The loss drops them to, 7-19 overall, 3-8 in district play. Friona opened the scoring in the first quarter on Friday as Mariah

 

Trevino was fouled by Jayci Weldon and Courtney Reed on back-to-back attempts. She split both pairs of free throws, giving the Squaws a, 2-0 advantage. With 3:19 to play in the opening quarter, Ari Villafranco was fouled on an attempt by Bailey Pope; she split the attempts, cutting the lead in half, 2-1, but Mariah Trevino scored a put-back for Friona, making it a three-point game, 4-1. Trinity Ayala answered with a three from the left elbow off of the cross-court assist from Bailey Jones, tying the game, 4-4

Wildcats handle Friona, set up showdown with Mustangs

The Littlefield Wildcats took down the Friona Chieftains on Friday on the road, 67-50, to improve to 14-12 overall, 8-1 in district play. Eric Prieto scored the games’ first points for Friona, but the Wildcats answered quickly as Jayden Longoria scored a layup off of the assist from Chris Douglas, tying the game, 2-2.

 

Prieto was fouled on an attempt by J’Shun Davis; he missed the first attempt, but made the second, giving the Chieftains a, 3-2 lead. Douglas nailed a three from the left wing, but Johnny Ojeda answered right back with a three of his own from the left wing, making the score, 6-5, with 5:05 remaining in the opening quarter. Longoria scored a lay-up off of the assist from Jonathan Davis, but Ivan Gallardo drilled a three from the right wing, extending Friona’s lead to, 9- 7

Wildcats slay tigers, 55-33

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team defeated the Slaton Tigers on Tuesday, 55- 33, to sweep the season series, 2-0. With the victory, the Wildcats improve to 13-12 overall, 7-1 in district play. Jayden Longoria drove through traffic and dropped in a lay-up for Littlefield to open the first quarter, but on the other end, Ja’Queese Johns was fouled on an attempt by Longoria, earning a trip to the line.

 

He split the free throws, making the score, 2-1, with 6:40 remaining in the opening quarter. J’Shun Davis knocked down a fade-away jumper from the right wing off of the assist from Jonathan Davis and Jonathan Davis followed it up with a three from the right elbow off of the assist from Chris Douglas, extending their lead to, 7-1.

Tigerettes too much for Lady Cats

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team fell to the Slaton Tigerettes on Tuesday at home, 58-30. With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 7-18 overall, 3-7 in district play. Kamryn Gibbs drained a three from the left elbow off of the assist from Quanasia McDaniel to open the first quarter.

 

Gibbs was fouled on an attempt by Courtney Reed; she split the attempts at the line, making the score, 4-0. McDaniel knocked down a three for Slaton, from the right elbow, stretching their lead to, 7-0, with 4:39 remaining in the first quarter.
