Lady Cats drop Bobbies in straight sets, 3-0

By DEREKLOPEZ The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team, made it back-to-back district wins on Tuesday as they took down the Dimmitt Bobbies in straight sets.

With the victory, the Lady Cats improve to 3-20 overall, 2-1 in district play.

In set one, Eli Chavez’s serve was returned out of bounds by senior, Jessica Hagopoylos for a Dimmitt point.

Chavez’s next serve went into the net, but the Lady Cats would surrender the serve on the next play as senior, Caroline Cozart’s serve was returned by Gisell Fuentes and tipped out of bounds by freshman, Geyah Garza, making the score, 1-2.

Fuentes was called for touching the net on the following play, turning the serve back over to Littlefield with the score tied, 2-2.

Wildcats can’t slow down Mustangs in district opener

The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity football team opened district play on Friday night with a, 55-6, road loss to Shallowater.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 1-5 overall, 0-1 in district play. Shallowater won the toss and elected to receive to begin the game.

Brody Hendrick carried the ball on first down for the Mustangs and was brought down by a horse collar tackle by the Wildcats tacking on 15 yards to the end of the run.

With the ball on the Wildcats 40-yard line, quarterback, Cutter Sparks, carried the ball for another Mustangs’ first down before being brought down by senior safety, Chris Douglas.

Running back, Zach Aragon, carried the ball around the right side, breaking a tackle on his way to the end zone for a touchdown with 10:51 to play in the first quarter.

Bulldogs looking to close out pre-district schedule strong

The Anton Bulldogs’ varsity football team is coming off of a dominating performance against the Whitharral Panthers as they get set to close out their pre-district schedule with a road contest at New Home.

The Bulldogs rushed for 370 yards and threw for 92 yards in the, 70-29 victory over the Panthers.

Lady Cats earn first district win of season

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team picked up their first district win of the season over the Dimmitt Bobbies on Saturday, 3-1.

The Lady Cats took set one, 25- 19, but the Bobbies stole set two, 23-25. The Lady Cats would respond, taking set three, 25-23 and set four, 25-19.

Anton routes Panthers, 70-29

The Anton Bulldogs’ varsity football team continues to roll as they routed the Whitharral Panthers on Friday, 70-29.

The Bulldogs improve to 5-1 overall on the season.

“I just felt like we weren’t ready to play at the beginning and with it being homecoming, that’s what I was afraid of, but we were able to get it going and able to finish,” Head Coach Pat Potts said. “We have to learn to be focused before the game even starts; and that starts on Monday. I didn’t feel like we had a great week of practice, I know it was homecoming, but we have to start paying attention to how we get mentally prepared for games.”

Titans too much for Bulldogs

The Amherst Bulldogs’ varsity football team suffered a tough loss to the Lubbock Home School Titans Thursday night, 70-20.

With the loss the Bulldogs fall to 3-2 overall on the season heading into their bye week.

The Bulldogs won the toss and elected to receive to start the game.

Kaleb Thornton booted the opening kickoff out of the back of the end zone for a touchback giving Amherst the ball on their own 20-yard line.

Lady Cats drop diiistriiict opener at Shallowater

The Littlefield Lady Cats varsity volleyball team lost their district opener on the road to Shallowater in straight sets, 3-0.

The Lady Cats fall to 1-20 overall, 0-1 in district play.

In set one, it was a close match early on as junior, Genasis Garza’s serve was killed by Cailyn Breckel. The set was tied, 1-1, as Berkley Sapieha’s serve sailed into the net.

Senior, Caroline Cozart’s serve was short of the net as both teams struggled to get their serves early on.

Wolverines take fourth at Canyon

The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity boys’ cross country team placed fourth out of seven teams on Saturday at Canyon.

Joe Cruz placed sixth overall with a time of 17:12, while Cesar Amador placed 14th and Diego Sanchez finished 21st with a time of 18:28.

Mustangs route Lockney, 49-12

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity football team got back in the win column on Friday with a homecoming victory over the Lockney Longhorns, 49-12.

With the victory, the Mustangs improve to 3-2 overall heading into their bye week.

Fillies drop nail-biter to Miami, 3-2

The Olton Fillies’ varsity volleyball team lost a nail-biter at home on Saturday against the Miami Lady Warriors, 3-2, as the second half of district play got underway.

With the loss the Fillies fall to 4-17 overall, 0-7 in district play.

After dropping the first two sets on Saturday to Miami, 18-25 and 16-25, the Fillies took the court for set three with their backs against the wall.
