CAROLYN NICHOLSON

Carolyn Nicholson, 73, of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018 in Amherst. Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 at Grace Chapel in Littlefield with Mike Butts officaiting. Carolyn was born June 29, 1944 in Plainview, to Daniel and Bertha Barrett. She attended school at Cotton Center. She married Eddie “Nick” Nicholson March 21, 1970. She loved to paint, and was an excellent cook. Carolyn is survived by her sons, Randy Morris of Amherst, Ricky Morris and wife, Dena of Lubbock, Bruce Nicholson and wife, Sharon of Amherst, and Mark Nicholson and wife, Pam of Abernathy; a daughter, Karla Been and husband, Brent of Earth; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Barrett of Lubbock; a sister, Pat Heathcoat of Woodro; and other extended family members and friends. Preceding her in death was her husband Nick, who died June 5, 2001; a brother, Wayne Barrett; and a sister, Norma Kuykendall.

AUDRA CAMPBELL

Audra Jane Campbell, 75, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 in Amherst. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Sudan. Burial will follow in Littlefield Memorial Park in Littlefield, with arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield. She was born on May 8, 1942 in Albany, to Fred and Esther Meeks. On Feb. 2, 1963, Jane married Mack Campbell in Sudan. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands and a granddaughter, Ashley Nichole Campbell.

OLETHA SANDERS

Oletha Sanders, 95 of Burnet died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. She was born Aug. 18, 1922, in Sulphur Springs to James W. and Carrie Leavelle Strickland. Oletha moved to Earth in 1940 with her family after graduating from Floydada. She met and married Marvin Sanders in April 1941. Oletha spent 26 years as the secretary to the Superintendent of Schools at Springlake Earth ISD and then 14 years as secretary of the First Baptist Church in Earth. Oletha was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burnet and in December 2003 moved to the Woodlands Baptist Community in Burnet. Surviving family include: her daughter, Pruda Fults and husband, Harold of Burnet; sister, Nita Colson and husband, Clyde of Blunt, SD; granddaughter, DeLynn Bocox of Katy; grandson, Jeff Sanders and wife, Marla of Boys Ranch; great-grandsons, Joshua Peace of South Carolina, Mark Sanders and Jacob Peace both of Katy, and Clayton Sanders of Boys Ranch; great-granddaughters, Julia Bocox and Miranda Sanders both of Katy.

SUE CHESTER

Church service for Sue Chester, 84, of Sudan, who died Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Littlefield, was scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at First Baptist Church in Sudan, with Mike Woods and Guthry Edwards, both of Sudan, officiating. Burial was to be in the Sudan Cemetery, with Ellis Funeral Home of Sudan in charge of arrangements. She was born Nov. 9, 1933 in Newlin, Texas to Charlie and Jewel “Tucker” Glover. She married Billy Chester in Sudan on Dec. 21, 1952. Sue graduated from Sudan High School in 1952. She was a homemaker, and loved to cook. She was a member of the Bridge Club, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Sudan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy, in 2016; her grandson, Timothy Lee Graves; and her parents.

BETTY KELLY

Betty Kelly passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018 at her home. Family and friends gathered to celebrate her life of 86 years on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 27, 2018, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers followed by burial in Littlefield Memorial Park. Betty was born on May 20, 1931, to Bud and Mary (Page) Emery in Brownfield. Betty lived in Amherst and worked as manager for Jolly Roger Convenient Store in Littlefield. On June 6, 1961 she married “B.B.” Kelly in Brownfield. Betty moved to Lubbock in 2001. She was an active member of Woodrow Baptist Church and volunteered for many years at Bender Terrace Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, B.B. Kelly; two sons, infant, David Reed Johnson, and Danny Ray Johnson; and sister, Francis Keith.

RITA KAYE DOUGLAS

Rita Kaye Douglas, 57, departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018 in Lubbock. Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Anton. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. She was born May 22, 1960 in Lorenzo, Texas to Earnest and Emma Douglas. Rita attended Lorenzo High School. She was a housekeeper, and later went to school and earned her auto mechanic degree. She also worked at Lowe’s grocery store. She loved football, and was a huge Wildcat fan. Preceding her in death are her parents; a brother, C.B. McGregor; and a grandson, Quinton Douglas.

TWILA PARKER LESTER

Twila Parker Lester died on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. A gathering to celebrate her life of 84 years, was held Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, in Lubbock. Twila Parker was born on March 2, 1933 to Ammar and Jewel Young Kirby in Altus, Okla. She married Francis Lee Jackson in 1950. After his death, Twila married Jesse William Parker. Jess and Twila lived in Olton with their children until Jesse William Parker died in 1995. Twila married Winston Lester in 1999 and moved to Lubbock. Her marriage to Winston lasted until his death in 2008. She enjoyed cooking, caring for others, watching her grandchildren play sports and playing bridge. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ammar and Jewel Edith Kirby; spouses, Francis Lee Jackson, Jesse William Parker, and Winston Lester.

DON TYLER

Don Tyler, 67, of Anton, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018. A celebration of life was held at George Price Funeral Home Chapel in Levelland, Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jesse Hodge officiating. Don was born in Pecos, to Homer and Anita Tyler. Don was a member of the Big Spring High School Marching Band before beginning his career in auto mechanics in Dallas. In 1982, Don sold his shop in Anton, to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. He married Annette Davis in Dallas in 1972, and moved to Anton in 1976. Don worked for Frontier Dodge as a Master Tech mechanic earning the coveted Gold Tool Kit Award from Dodge. Don opened his own shop in Anton and was appointed Constable Precinct 4 in Hockley County and went to join the Hockley County Sherriff’s Office and served 24 years with the department before retiring in 2007. Don married Bobbie Newton Stevens in 2001. Don was preceded in death by his parents Homer Tyler and Anita Walker.

JOEANN VICK

Memorial service for JoeAnn Davis, Johnson, Lucas, Vick, 84, of Levelland, and formerly of Littlefield, who died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018 in a Levelland Nursing Home, are scheduled for Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Littlefield. JoeAnn was born June 12, 1933 in Levelland to Robert Jefferson Davis and Hazel Tomlin Davis. She had worked at the Lamb County Leader-News, Lowe’s Pay and Save, and retired from American Cotton Growers Denim Textile Plant in Littlefield. She enjoyed her family, and talking about her childhood while growing up on the farm. JoeAnn was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Dwayne Davis; her husband, JD Vick; and a grandson, Larry Don Johnson.
