ELLA MAE JOHNSON

Funeral services for Ella Mae Johnson, 81, of Littlefield, who died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 in Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, were held Friday morning, Dec. 8, in New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Littlefield. Pastor Donald Ross, officiated. Burial was in Littlefield Cemetery, with McCarty Funeral Home of Littlefield in charge of arrangements. Ella Mae was born Dec. 5, 1936 in Thorndale, Texas to the now late Dave Lewis and Willie Mae Simmons Lewis. After the family moved to Littlefield, she attended Littlefield schools and graduated from Dunbar High School. She married Clerence Jean Johnson on May 4, 1959. After finishing Cosmetology school in Tyler, she came back to Littlefield, where she worked at Joy’s Beauty Salon for 20 years. She then did hair out of her home, and coooked and sold barbecue out of a truck in the neighborhood. In her church, she ministered as a singer.

MICHAEL B. GEORGE

Michael Brent George, 58 of Slaton, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at home. Graveside services and interment were in Enochs Cemetery, Enochs on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at 10 a.m. Brent was born Nov. 27, 1959 in Lubbock, he was the son of Robert and Brenda McCall George. He was a 1978 graduate of Coronado High School. Michael loved hunting and fishing in his off time. Brent is survived by his mother and father, Brenda and Robert George of Slaton; his sister, Lea Walker and husband, Ricky; a niece, Taysha Waite; and two nephews, Trinity and Trey Walker, all of Eagar, AZ. ERLINDA SILVA

Erlinda Silva, 58, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017. A service of fellowship and remembrance will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers in Lubbock. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 58 years on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel. Erlinda was born on Dec. 1, 1959, to the now late Roman and Teodora (Carrasco) Campos in Olton, and graduated from Frenship High School. She dedicated much of her time working with an organization and staff at Lubbock Christian University. Erlinda is survived by her children, Steven Silva and wife, Melody of El Paso, Manuel Silva, Jr. and wife, Samara of Littlefield, and Lupita Garza of Lubbock; her grandchildren, Marcus, Roman, Heaven, Lourdes, Saysha, Lillian, Nathan, Israel, Jr., Michael, Yasmin, and Jose; siblings, Anna Guajardo, Victoria Benitez, Belia Guerrero, Clara Campos, Carmel Campos, and Roman Campos, Jr.

MAX SAGESER

Max Sageser, 78, of Earth, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be announced later. He was born Aug. 23, 1939 in Lubbock, to Emma and Forest Sageser. He attended Texas Tech where he was a member of the Rodeo team and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He served in the Air National Guard and was a Republican. In 1959 Max married Charolett Holder and they are parents of two children, Cindy and Sid. They made their home in Cotton Center where he farmed until 1978, when they moved to Dimmitt and he continued to farm there. In 1987, he married Joni Hobbs and they relocated to Earth. He was a member of Earth Baptist Church and was active in his second church, Island Baptist in South Padre Island, where they wintered the last several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jack Sageser; and sister, Emma Frances McCluskey. He is survived by his wife, Joni, his children: Sid of Ft.

MARY SANCHEZ RODELA

Mary Sanchez Rodela, 67, of Littlefield, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2017. Visitation began Wednesday morning (today), Dec. 20, 2017 at Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway in Lubbock, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017 at Trinity Church with interment to follow at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Lubbock. Combest Family Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements. She was born Oct. 12, 1950 in San Antonio to Eduardo Sr. and Antonia (Salace) Moreno. Mary worked as a custodian for LISD and Texas Tech University before retiring. Mary was reunited with the love of her life, Pete Rodela; her father, Eduardo Sanchez, Sr.; brother, Eduardo Sanchez, Jr.; granddaughter, Magen; and great-grandson, Josiah.

JAMES ELLIOTT

James “Jim” Elliott, 85, of Littlefield, died Monday evening, Dec.11, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, following an illness. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Dec. 16, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner with Rev. John Russo officiating. Burial followed at Fort Sumner Cemetery. All arrangements were directed by Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Fort Sumner, NM (575) 355-2311. He was born Sept. 15, 1932 in Clovis, NM to Bill and Audrey Reed Elliott. He attended schools in Clovis and graduated from Clovis High School in 1950. Jim served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was assigned to 3530th Field Maintenance Squadron as a Jet Engine Mechanic. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on March 12, 1955. Jim married Lola Bell French on Dec. 21, 1957 in Sweetwater, OK. Jim worked for many years as a machinist in Clovis, he owned and operated Motor Lab from 1964-1982 and Clovis Machine from 1978-1986.

ALVA MARIE ROBERSON

Alva Marie Roberson, 96, of Lubbock, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017. Services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017 at Venue on Broadway with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, in Lubbock. Combest Family Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements. She was born Jan. 27, 1921 in Kirkland, Texas to R. W. and Mamie (Richeson) Wood. Alva graduated from Amherst High School and went on to attend Texas Tech University. She worked as a school teacher and basketball coach in Anton during World War II, and later as the librarian and secretary at Olton ISD. Alva was a member of Green Lawn Church of Christ in Lubbock. Alva was preceded in death by her husband, Lem Roberson; son, Jerry Roberson; and brother Thedis Wood.

CLIFFORD HOPPING

Clifford Hopping, 84 of Lubbock died Monday, Dec. 11, 2017. A visitation was held Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel, and a Celebration of Life service was held Thursday afternoon, Dec. 14, 2017, at the First Baptist Church of Lubbock. Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Park. He was born March 2, 1933 in Littlefield, to Sydney Coke and Loraine (Pass) Hopping. Clifford graduated from Littlefield High School in 1949 where he was on the State Championship Football Team. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his discharge, he married Eva Fields on Jan. 23, 1955. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1958 with his degree in Industrial Psychology. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lubbock. He served as District Deputy of the Grand Lodge of Texas, was a Tennis USTA Certified referee and umpire, and had served on the Board of the Texas Tennis Association.

JEANNINE HINCHLIFFE

Church service for Jeannine “Jerry” Hinchliffe, 88, of Lubbock, and formerly of Earth, was conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 at Earth United Methodist Church, with Rev. Charlie Johnson of Seminole officiating. Burial was in the Earth Memorial Cemetery, with Parsons-Ellis Funeral Homne of Earth in charge of arrangements. Jerry died Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 in Lubbock. She was born March 11, 1929 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Claibe andLula “Brannon” Applegate. She married Norman Hinchliffe in Hamilton, Texas on July 19, 1952. Jerry graduated from Hamilton High School in 1946, and was a member of the Hamilton National Honor Society. She worked in the County Clerk’s office in Hempstead, Texas; the ASCS office in Livingston; the Earth bank; Springlake-Earth Schools; and Earth Ag Supply. Jerry was a member of the Earth United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman in 2014; her parents; and two brothers, Bill Applegate and J.R. Applegate.
