Big posts at stake in Primary run-offs

AUSTIN — Early voting ended May 23 and Tuesday, May 27, was state primary election runoff day. Voting records available to the public at the Office of the Secretary of State show that turnout is historically low for mid-term primaries and even lower for primary runoff elections. But what’s different about this set of runoffs — and something that should stimulate voter turnout — were the powerful offices at stake.

TIMOTHY V. SPIRLING

A private celebration of the life of Timothy V. Spirling, 52, of Spade, who died Saturday, May 17, 2014, will be held Sunday, June 1, 2014, at 1318 C 52nd Street in Lubbock. McCarty Funeral Home of Littlefield was in charge of arrangements. Timothy was born July 5, 1961 to Bobby and Shirley Mae Spirling. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Mae Spirling. He is survived by his father, Bobby Spirling and wife, Shirley Faye Spirling; his wife, A’ngelique McGee; his children, Clifton Dickerson, Esk’Quawn McGee, Leilani Powell-Sanders, Ecka’Tia Swann, Es’Eaon McGee, Vaughn Spirling, and Enigh’Keyla Rabon; his siblings, Shirlyn Spirling, Tashia Spirling, Tracy Tinner, Sheryl Spirling, Bob Spirling and wife, Trenna, Rob Spirling and wife, Dorothy, Joan Harris and Shayla Harris; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

BOBBIE NELL LEE

Bobbie Nell Lee, 81, of Idalou died Monday, May 19, 2014. Services will be held 2 p. m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Idalou. Burial will follow in the Ralls Cemetery, with Adams Funeral Home of Ralls in charge of arrangements. She was born March 8, 1933 in Ralls to Olan and Mildred Patterson Marshall. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Idalou. Bobbie is preceded in death by a brother J.B. Marshall; and two sisters, Sue Binder and Martha Botkin; and one step-daughter, Wrene Brown. Survivors include three sons; Marshall Allen and wife, Susie, Doug Allen and wife, Nancy, Bradley Allen and wife C,hris, all of Lubbock; one step-son Craig Ratliff of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
