NORMA WHELCHEL HEDGES

Norma Whelchel Hedges, 81, of Littlefield, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at her home in Littlefield. A visitation was held Thursday afternoon, June 5, at Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield. Funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, June 7, 2014 in the chapel at Martin’s Funeral Home; in Granbury, Texas. Private burial will be in the Dallas National Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, at First Baptist Church in Littlefield with Dr. Brian Hill officiating. Arrangements are by Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield. Norma was born Jan. 16, 1933 in Gaffney, South Carolina to Clyde Lewis Whelchel and Lola Candice (Carpenter) Whelchel. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Preston Hedges; and her parents. Survivors include her children, Dr. Tony Hedges, Susan Roberts, Robin Colvard, and Sharon Kasachkoff; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Frances Roper of South Carolina.

Big posts at stake in Primary run-offs

AUSTIN — Early voting ended May 23 and Tuesday, May 27, was state primary election runoff day. Voting records available to the public at the Office of the Secretary of State show that turnout is historically low for mid-term primaries and even lower for primary runoff elections. But what’s different about this set of runoffs — and something that should stimulate voter turnout — were the powerful offices at stake.
