JOYCE ANN PIERCE FURNO

Joyce Ann Pierce Furno, formerly of Littlefield, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the age of 75. Joyce was born to Jake and Lucille Pierce on March 7, 1943. Joyce had four children. She worked for Jolly Roger Convenience Store, and later Town and Country. Joyce is survived by her son, Scott Furno of Culleoka, TN; two daughters, Deborah Jacops- Lenard of Ada, OK and Patricia Fountain of Tenaha, TX; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; and a brother, Vernon "Doc" Peirce of Littlefield She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Louis Furno; her parents, Jake and Lucille Pierce; three brothers, Quanah, Billie and Jimmie Pierce, all previously from Littlefield. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.

BENNIE DOGGETT

Bennie Doggett died Sunday, July 15, 2018. A Celebration of Life service was to be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Lakeridge United Methodist Church with burial at 2 p.m. at Olton Cemetery. Bennie was born in Olton, TX, on Oct. 15, 1934 to George and Tempie Doggett. He married Loy Goyne Feb. 3, 1956. They made their home in Olton until 1971 when they moved to Lubbock and he established his dirt and demolition business. He is preceded in death by his parents and baby girl, Jana Joy. He is survived by his wife of 62 years; his son, Rick and daughters, Techa and Dana and husband; Nathan King; granddaughter, Kassidy King; one brother, Allen and wife, Billie Kay; two sisters, Annelle Kester and Joy Wyche all of Lubbock.

IRMA MARY VALDEZ

Irma Mary Valdez, 55 of Lubbock, died July 5, 2018 at UMC Hospital in Lubbock. Funeral service was held Friday morning, July 13, 2018 at Hammons Memorial Chapel in Littlefield. Irma was born Sept. 15, 1962 in Martin County, Texas to Ray and Jovita Valdez. She attended Littlefield High School and was working as a clerk at Tide Cleaners in Lubbock. Irma is survived by her children, two sons, Isaiah Orta and Matthew Orta, both of Lubbock; daughter, Rebekah Orta of Lubbock; granddaughters Amya Sanchez Aguirre and Vanity Villarreal; grandsons, Miguel Villarreal, Elijah Orta Villarreal and Leon Orta Villarreal, all of Lubbock; brother, Gilbert Valdez of Lubbock; two sisters, Linda Valdez and Maria Perez and husband, Angel all of Lubbock.

MARCUS A. JIMENEZ

Marcus Anfernee Jimenez, 23, of Olton, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018, in Lubbock. Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 13, 2018, at the Olton High School Auditorium with Brother David Azam officiating, and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors of Olton. Marcus was born March 18, 1995, in Plainview, to Manuel and Mary Ann (Hernandez) Jimenez.Growing up in Olton, he graduated from Olton High School in 2013 and attended South Plains College and Texas Tech University. In 2017, Marcus joined the United States Air Force and was an Airman 1st Class in Clovis, N.M.

E. W. “FRITZ” RICHARDS

Services for E. W. “Fritz” Richards, 85 of Lubbock were to be held at 10 a.m., Wed, July 11, 2018 at the Kent Hance Chapel at Texas Tech. Interment with military honors will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Fritz passed away Friday, July 6, 2018. He was born March 4, 1933 in Bavaria, KS to the late Clifford Wesley and Minnie (Henry) Richards. He served in the United States Air Force from 1952 -1956. He met and married Gladys Brogden, on June 5, 1954 in Lubbock. They made their home in Olton, and were active in the community supporting many organizations. In 1968 He became the manager of Olton Grain Coop. He retired in 1998. Fritz was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Gladys; brother, Tony Leister; sister Florence Gebhart; and niece, Jeanne Pohlman. Survivors include his children, Jack W. Richards and wife, Susan of Southlake, Jeannie Stevens and husband, Dale of Lubbock and Dr. Robert Richards D.V.M.

SOFIA MARTINEZ

Sofia Martinez, 80, of Olton, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018, in Lubbock. Rosary was recited Sunday evening, July 8, 2018, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Olton. Mass was celebrated Monday morning, July 9, 2018, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Sylvester D’Souza officiating. Interment followed at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors Sofia was born Dec. 4, 1937, in Brackettville, Texas, to Patricio and Sofia (Talamantes) Fuentes. Moving to Olton in 1952, Sofia married Samuel Martinez in 1953 and they were married over 64 years. A member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Sofia enjoyed being outdoors and camping. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, one sister, and a great-grandchild.

JESSICA J. COMER

Services for Jessica Jeannete Comer, 37, of Anton, who died Saturday, July 7, 2018 in UMC in Lubbock, were held Friday, July 13, at Chapel of Grace in Lubbock. She donated her body to Life Gift, and a graveside service will be held at a later date. She was born Dec. 4, 1980 in Littlefield to Angie Gonzales and Cruz Orrozco. She was adopted by her grandparents, Ernest and Carmen Gonzales and grew up at Anton, where she attended schools and at Pep. She had been employed in the food service business. She was preceded in death by her adopted parents, and a little cousin, Julian Lee Rosales. She is survived by two sons, Ryan Gonzales of Anton and Jaden Tipton of Lubbock; a daughter, Andi Comer; her birth mother, Angie Gonzales; her aunt/sister, Patty Martinez and uncle Rudy; two sisters, Erica Miranda and Chrisina Gonzales; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.

MARIJO STERLING

Memorial service for Marijo (Josie) Barton Sterling, age 91, of Lubbock was held Friday morning, June 29 at the Carillon Chapel in Lubbock. Graveside services preceded the memorial service, officiated by Jim Powell. Josie was born Sept. 19, 1926, Lamb County, Earth, Texas to Robert Eli and Nellie Pearl Barton. She attended Earth Springlake Schools, and graduated from Baylor University in 1948 with a BA degree in speech/ radio. Josie married Curtis J. Sterling on Dec. 19, 1948 and moved to Brownfield. They owned the Brownfield News until it was sold in 1962. In addition to being a full-time homemaker and mother, Josie was actively involved in her church and community. She was a life-long Baptist. Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Sterling King and husband, Dr.
