DAVID LEON BRADLEY

David Leon Bradley, 73, of Anton, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 in Lubbock, following a brief illness. Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 401 Edwards Street, in Anton. Burial will be the Anton Cemetery, with McCarty Funeral Home of Littlefield in charge of arrangements. He was born on July 16, 1945, in Anton, to Horace Bradley, Jr. and Ola Mae (Nichols) Bradley. He attended G.W. Carver School in Anton, and in his early years, he played basketball with the Black Converse AllStars. He had been employed with the City of Anton until he began working as a trackman with Santa Fe Railroad. He retired from that job in 2008. Both of his parents preceded him in death.

LEO SERNA CORONADO

Leo Serna Coronado, 77, of Littlefield, passed away at his home Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018. Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m., Sunday Sept. 23, 2018 at Grace Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 24, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield, with Father Brian Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. He was born May 23, 1941 in Fort Sumner, NM to Erineo and Tanislada (Serna) Cornonado. Leo married Sylvia Longoria Dec. 23, 1970 in Lamar, CO. He was a hard worker and was employed by several feedyards and family farming operations in the area over the years, including Littlefield Feedyard, Sudan Feedyard, Springlake Feedyard, and Blackwell Farms. He was also employed at American Cotton Growers for several years. Leo enjoyed dancing. He was a devote Catholic and attended the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield.

LILLIAN O. HAMILTON

Lillian O. Hamilton passed away on Sept. 19, 2018. A celebration of her life was to be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at 1:30 pm at First Baptist Church, Earth, TX. Lillian was born on March 11, 1919 to Wiley and Nellie Nelson. She lived in the Springlake Earth area most of her life. After graduating from Springlake High School in 1937, she married Price Hamilton. She enjoyed extensive travels, quilting, photography, researching family history and making scrapbooks. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Earth, and a devoted Christian.

CHARLSEY WHITT SCRIBNER

Charlsey Ann Whitt Scribner, 89, of Olton, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, in Lubbock. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Olton with Brother Neely Landrum officiating. Graveside services were to be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at Mobeetie Cemetery in Mobeetie, Texas, with Thacker Haynes officiating and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. Charlsey was born June 13, 1929, to Walter Jackson “Jack” and Ida Jane (Long) Whitt, in Childress Co., Texas. She grew up in Clarendon, Texas and graduated from Clarendon High School in 1945. Continuing her education at Clarendon Junior College and West Texas State College, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and an all level teaching certificate in 1948. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Education from West Texas State in the early 1970’s. She began a 43 year teaching career in Gruver, Texas.

VIRGINIA MENDEZ

Virginia Mendez, 77, lifelong resident of Littlefield, passed away Friday, Sep. 14, 2018 in Littlefield. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Littlefield with Father Brian Wood officiating. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Rosary was recited Monday evening at Grace Chapel. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. She was born July 10, 1941 in Littlefield to Juan and Rafaelita Marquez. Virginia married Ralph Mendez, Sr. in Littlefield. Together they owned and operated the original Tasty Taco for 18 years. She enjoyed camping and fishing. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was very active in numerous activities, and involved in the Crusistas. Virginia is survived by her two daughters, Debra Tarango and Brenda Brito and husband, Jessie all of Littlefield; three sons, Ralph Mendez, Jr.

Harry Roscoe Thomas, Jr.

Harry Roscoe Thomas, Jr., 93, of Olton, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, in Olton following a lengthy illness. Graveside services were held Thursday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2018, at Olton Cemetery, with Brother Neely Landrum officiating and under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. Born on July 16, 1925, in Mobeetie, Texas, Harry was the son of Roscoe and Bert Thomas. He graduated from Olton High School in 1943. He immediately joined the U.S. Navy and served in WWII Pacific theatre. A long time area farmer, Harry also owned and operated Thomas House Moving. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Drummond Bartlett Thomas. Survivors include his son, Harry Max Thomas of Olton; three daughters, Marge Bell of Hereford, Connie T. Maxwell of Olton and Alice Thomas of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be made to the Runningwater Draw Care Center, P.O. Box 409, Olton, Texas 79064.

Joan Fry Horn

Joan Fry Horn, 87, of Littlefield, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, in Lubbock. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 at Littlefield Memorial Park with her son, Wendell Horn, officiating. Arrangements were under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. The family received friends Friday at the funeral home. She was born Jan. 18, 1931 in Shannon, Texas to W.W. and Evelyn Fry. Joan married N.C. Horn on March 13, 1949 in Jacksboro, Texas. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed crafting, as well as was an excellent baker. She worked as the secretary of the Parkview Baptist Church in Littlefield, where she was a member for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, N.C. Horn; a son, Ken Horn; her parents; and a brother, Norman Fry.

Joyce Lowery

Joyce Lowery, 86, of Littlefield, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. Joyce was born near Springlake. She was her Senior class’s Valedictorian when she graduated from Springlake High School, where she played basketball. She was a Jehovah’s Witnesses, and loved to spend time sharing her Bible-based hope with people in the community. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Debra and Sharla; and two brothers, Carroll and Dwane Jones. She is survived by her husband, Loyd, of 68 years; a daughter, Donna Hartline and husband, James, of Littlefield; two granddaughters, Shawna Jansen and husband, Philip, of Austin, Steffani Cantwell and husband, Andrew of Levelland; a grandson, Toby Hartline and wife, Ashely of Lubbock; four great-granddaughters, Ava, Brynn, Haley, and Hope; a sister, Lynda Brunk of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
