CHAMBER BANQUET SPEAKER

CHAMBER BANQUET SPEAKER—Mudflap, an 18-year resident of Lubbock, will be the featured speaker for the Littlefield Chamber of Commerce Banquet Tuesday night, March 20, in the Lamb County Ag and Community Center. Mudflap has been a part of some crazy stuff over his Radio career and has many stories to tell.

He is married to Shannon Smith, who was born in Littlefield and works as the foundations director of Carillon in Lubbock. He helps raise funds with many non–profit organizations, and is the creator and inventor of some, one of a kind, inventions such as: The Boccuzi, The Plane Ole Grill. “Each day, I live life to the fullest and try to get as many people as possible to smile and laugh”, Mudflap explains about his life’s goals.

Olton Mustang baseball gearing up for district play

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity baseball team is getting set to start district play on Tuesday under first-year Head Coach Aaron Sarabia.

“This is my first time being paid to coach,” Sarabia explained. I played baseball at the University of Southwest in Hobbs, N.M. I played my freshman year and it went well, but I decided to transfer to Texas Tech University and was just a student and graduated from there.”

Sarabia was a volunteer coach at Smyer two years ago and a volunteer coach in Plainview last year.

Run-off election to decide winner

When results of Tuesday night’s Primary Election were tallied and complete at 11:32 p.m., a grand total of 1,863 Lamb County voters had cast their ballots, whether early or at the polls on voting day.

Of that number, 1,708 were Republican voters, while 155 voted the Democratic ballot.

Results of the Republican voting revealed that only one of the three locally contested races in Lamb County promised a definite win, but a recount has been called on one contest, and a run-off election will be called to settle the Precinct 3 Justice of Peace winner.

Nice donation!

DONATION TO THE LIBRARY – Tuesday morning, Eric Turpen with Clift Land Brokers of Littlefield, made a $1,300 donation to the Lamb County Library. Turpen said Clift Land Auctions held an auction last week and at the start of every auction, they hold a benefit where Clift Land Auction matches up to $500. Brian Hamilton donated $800 and Clift Land Auctions donated $500. Lamb County Librarian Candy Seth said the donation was very much appreciated and would be used for the summer reading program. Olton honoring residents at 61st annual CCA Banquet

The Olton Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its 61st Annual Banquet at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in the Olton ISD cafeteria.

“Adventure Begins in Olton” is the theme for this year’s annual banquet, which will feature a meal of pork tenderloin with sides, a drink and dessert, which will be prepared by the Olton Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture’s Board of Directors.

Tickets are $20 per plate per individual.

Patrolling every mile of Lamb County

I recently had another chance for a ride along with a local law enforcement officer.

This time, it was with the Lamb County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Laramie Kennedy.

As a matter of fact, I did two ride alongs with Deputy Kennedy. The first was back in December of last year, and the most recent one, last Wednesday, Feb., 28th.

Springlake celebrates Texas Independence

GRILLING RIB-EYE STEAKS—Some of the members of the Springlake Volunteer Fire Department were visiting near the grill, while rib-eye steaks were being grilled Saturday evening for the 4th annual Texas Independence Day Celebration meal.

Shown visiting, while also watching the grill, are, left to right, Mike West, treasurer of the Fire Department; Kelly Furr, wife of Fire Chief, Shane Furr, second from right; and Ted Rowan, volunteer. The ladies prepared the salad, the baked potatoes, cobbler and dinner rolls, which went with the iced tea and iced water.

Voters to cast ballots Tuesday

Early voting ended Friday, March 2, for the Tuesday, March 6 Republican and Democratic Party Primary elections.

By Thursday evening, when the County Clerk’s office closed, there had been a grand total of 481 votes, which includes 29 voting on the Democratic ballot and 452 voting on the Republican ballot.

Littlefield City Council holds meeting

Among the topics on the agenda, Littlefield Chief of Police Ross Hester presented his annual police report which also included the state’s required racial profiling report.
