PRE-K PERFECT ATTENDANCE FIRST SIX WEEKS

Heifer and steer winners selected

GRAND CHAMPION STEER & SR. SHOWMANSHIP--Kambri Hanlin of the Littlefield 4-H Club exhibited the Grand Champion Steer of the Littlefield Area 4-H Livestock show Thursday evening. She also won the showmanship award in the beef division of the show. Shown with her is the show judge, Chris Bishop.

Thursday evening, the Littlefield Area Junior Livestock Show and Sale began with the exhibition and judging of eight beef heifers, 10 steers, and 12 dairy heifers. FFA and 4-H members from Littlefield, Amherst and Sudan were featured in all of the area shows, and their results are printed in this issue of the Leader-News. Results of the goat, lamb and swine shows will be published in Wednesday’s edition of the Leader-News. Taking home the Supreme Heifer award Thursday night was Garyn Bigham of the Amherst FFA Chapter, while Keyton Davis of the Littlefield 4-H Club showed the reserve supreme heifer at the show.

NEW TELLER PARTITION

Security State Bank has been undergoing major improvements inside the bank, in addition to the new drive-through facility. Here a new partition has been installed along the front of the teller stations. The partition on the east end (to the left) will be glassed off, providing privacy to the drive-thru banking tellers, while the tellers on the right will still have open communications with the customers.

MOUSE TRAP POWER

Mouse traps are used to power these cars built by Coach Been’s sixth grade science students at Springlake-Earth School. Energy for the car’s motors is transformed when the trap closes, the metal bar pulls a string that has been wound around the axle of the mouse trap car, making it power the wheels. The students are, front row, TJ Radford, Shelton Bradfute, Angel Escamilla, Robert Mendoza and Nick Gonzales. Standing in back are Paige Burks, Sebastian Vela, Joe Matthew Cruz, Taegan Everett, Juan Vargas and Lindsey Lopez.

SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTATION

The Sheriff’s Association of Texas has awarded a scholarship to Emily Morgan McIver, center, daughter of Charles “Bud” and Jessica McIver of Olton, and granddaughter of Carmell Jones, retired sheriff of Armstrong County, right. Sheriff Gary Maddox, left, current Sgt-at-Arms for the Sheriff’s Association of Texas, presented the award on behalf of the Association. The scholarship is in honor of U.S. Marshal Clint Peoples and wife, Donna. Peoples has had a 55-year career in law enforcement, and as of 1985, he has worn a total of nine badges. He moved through his career with distinction and honor, and holds advanced certificates from the Department of Public Safety Law Enforcement Academy, where he was also an instructor.

Lubbock Children’s Healthcare Clinic providing classes

As we begin to welcome a new year in – so too will we welcome being able to provide additional services in Lubbock that work to insure healthy pregnancies and healthy outcomes for Lubbock’s infants and children. As a part of our collaboration with Texas Tech University-Dept. of Education East Lubbock Promise Neighborhood (ELPN), the Parenting Cottage will be providing prenatal classes within the ELPN each Monday at 1:30 PM at the Lubbock Children’s Healthcare Clinic located at 1801 E. 14th (inside the old Posey Elementary School Bldg.).

SECOND GRADE CHOIR

The Primary School’s second-grade choir was called to the stage during the special Christmas program Friday morning. They sang “Must Be Santa”, to the accompaniment of recorded music, and led by their music teacher, Trisha Duncan. Shown seated on the stage to the right, is Israel Martinez, who had led the gathering in singing.

South Plains Irrigation treats customers to lunch

Employees of South Plains Irrigation of Olton greeted guests who attended their annual customer appreciation lunch at noon Friday, Dec. 13, in the Olton Ag Pavilion. Customers enjoyed their steak dinners, with all the trimmings, and many of them received a variety of gifts when their tickets were drawn. Those attending, are shown here getting their tickets for the drawing, which were placed in the “shaker”, shown in the center.

Celebrity Attractions and Civic Lubbock’s upcoming 2014 Broadway Season is brimming with stars and brand-name Broadway. Opening the season will be the 2009 Tony Award® winner for Best Musical revival, “Hair”. Sally Struthers closes the season leading a stellar cast in “Hello, Dolly!”. “Hair” – Feb. 28-March 1, 2014, Civic Center Theatre. Friday evening 7:30 p.m., Saturday Matinee 2 p.m., Saturday Evening 7:30 p.m.

Lamb County 4-H Gold Star recipients honored at banquet

Lamb County’s 4-H Gold Star recipients were
honored at the 56 th annual 4-H Gold Star Banquet, which was
held Monday, Nov. 25, in Lubbock at the Frazier Alumni Building on the Texas Tech Campus. Honored were Sadler Pinkerton of the Olton 4-H Club, and Peyton Warren and Sydney White of the Littlefield 4-H Club. Also honored were Kody and Kimbra Carson of Olton, as the Distinguished leaders for Lamb County 4-H. Sarah Clifton, Rural Counties Director and Natural
Resources Advisor for Texas Senator Robert Duncan, was the
keynote speaker. Rebecca Burt of Littlefield, District 2 4-H
president, was Mistress of Ceremonies for the banquet.

The 5th annual 4-H Gold star Banquet was held Monday, Nov. 25, at the Frazier Alumni Building, Texas Tech University in
Lubbock. The 4-H Gold Star Banquet spotlights 4-H Gold Star winners and their achievements, as well as, offering special inspiration and encouragement to all youth. Lamb County 4-H Gold Star recipients are Sadler Pinkerton of the Olton 4-H Club and Peyton Warren and Sydney White of the Littlefield 4-H Club.
