LHS sets open house on Monday, Oct. 20

Littlefield High School will be conducting open house from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday evening, Oct. 20. The community is invited to the come and go event, and visit with the teachers and administration. Last year’s Littlefield High School yearbook will be available to be picked up, for those who haven’t received them yet, and pre-orders for this year’s yearbook will be taken. The cost is $40 for each of issues.

USDA expands access to credit to help beginning family farmers

Agriculture Deputy Secretary Krysta Harden has announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will improve farm loans by expanding eligibility and increasing lending limits to help more beginning and family farmers. As part of this effort, USDA is raising the borrowing limit for the microloan program from $35,000 to $50,000; simplify the lending processes; updating required “farming experience” to include other valuable experiences; and expanding eligible business entities to reflect changes in the way family farms are owned and operated.

FIRST PLACE QUILT AND RIBBONS

9-year-old Zander Tillman, won first place at the South Plains Fair last week with this airplane quilt. He entered canned vegetables, chocolate chip cookies, and various antiques, and went home with four first place ribbons, three second place ribbons, and two honorable mention ribbons.

Roper-Rutter Wedding vows recited in Lubbock

Katie Danielle Roper and Lukas Marc Rutter, both of Lubbock, were united in marriage before a floral archway. The double-ring ceremony took place Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014 at The Historic Baker Building in Lubbock. A friend of the couple, Dylan Smith, officiated the ceremony. Given in marriage by her mother and father, the bride wore a long ivory gown with lace and pearl accents and wore an elbowlength veil with pearl trim. Her wedding bouquet contained chosen colors of sangria and coordinating colors, which was done by the bride’s great uncle, Kip Cutshall of Littlefield.

Beef Cattle and Range Tour scheduled at Post on Oct. 7

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a multi-county Beef Cattle and Range Tour from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at Post. The program will convene at the Post Community Center for the morning session, then travel to the range site at 10:45 a.m. for the tour on the UU Ranch, said Greg Jones, AgriLife Extension agent in Garza County.

USDA unveils new programs to help farmers manage risk

Monday, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack unveiled highly-anticipated new programs to help farmers better manage risk, ushering in one of the most significant reforms to U.S. farm programs in decades. Vilsack also announced that new tools are now available to help provide farmers the information they need to choose the new safety net program that is right for their business.
