CROWD AT SPRINGLAKE

People from all around Springlake enjoyed the July 4 celebration Friday evening in the Springlake City Park, following the large parade. The event was sponsored by the Springlake Fire Department, and funds raised at the various events, went to benefit the department.

Sudan teen named Miss Rodeo Princess

Aubrie Fields, the daughter of Gary and Sue Fields of Sudan, was crowned as the newest statewide Miss Rodeo Texas Princess on June 26, 2014, in San Antonio.

Aubrie Fields was crowned as the newest statewide Miss Rodeo Texas Princess on June 26, 2014, in San Antonio. Miss Fields said, “I felt like I could finally let a breath out that I had been holding the whole contest. The first thought that came to my mind was ‘Thank you God for this opportunity and honor’. I then thought about the honor and privilege that I had just been given. I know this experience will change my life.”

Plenty of fireworks available in Littlefield

Ruby Walters is shown buying fireworks in the “Mr. W Fireworks” stand just outside of the city limit sign south of Littlefield on Highway 385. Operating the stand are Debbie Blair and Kim Ramirez, who are in their second year of fireworks sales. Sales start at 9 a.m. and continue until midnight.

Wind causes early closure of Relay For Life

A large gathering occurred on the football practice field Friday evening, as the gate to the Relay For Life of Lamb County opened. Several concession booths were set up by Relay teams, offering a variety of food, drinks, or souvenir items.

The bed of this new Silverado pickup on the showroom floor of John Roley’s AutoCenter in Littlefield, is almost full to the tailgate. Monday, June 30, is the last day of the special drive, to donate food for the hungry.

Juneteenth Celebration draws huge crowds

Plates that were delivered to shut-ins in the community were being filled at noon Saturday, during the annual Juneteenth Celebration in the Van Ashley Memorial Pavilion in Littlefield’s Dunbar Park. Shown at work are Beverly Walton, Katherin Ingram, Marianne Flores, Ann Bradley, Retha Williams, Robert Nichols, Minnie Moore and Betty Kemp. On the menu were smoked chicken and sausage, pinto beans, potato salad, pickles, onions, olives and tomatoes. After the plates were delivered, plates were served to everyone else.

Juneteenth Celebration recalls Texas history

Jerome Johnson, Jr., pastor of Gospel Cathedral Church in Lubbock gave the message Thursday evening, for the crowd that had gathered at the Van Ashley Memorial Pavilion in Dunbar Park to kick off the Juneteenth Celebration.

Littlefield’s annual Juneteenth Celebration is now about to become history, with only one more event scheduled. This afternoon (Sunday) at 3 p.m., everyone is invited to attend a community-wide service at the Irvin Street First Baptist Church.
