Ashley and Michael Bartley, left, harvested the first bale of cotton for Texas Producers Cooperative on Wednesday, Oct. 3, and it was ginned Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Sudan Branch. Guyle Roberson, Gin Manager, congratulates the couple for bringing the cotton to the Sudan branch. The 487-pound bale Bartley produced is not shown, since the rain was falling Tuesday morning when the photo was taken inside the Sudan branch office. The crop was planted May 15, on a farm two miles east of Sudan. Grades and other information on the cotton had not been received by the Cooperative before Tuesday. Representatives from First United Bank of Sudan, Matt Groetken and Clay Carr; and from First State Bank of Amherst’s assistant vice president, Torrey Tolbert; each donated $1 per pound of the bale’s weight, to the Bartleys.
