Hilario Garza

Hilario Garza, 92, of Springlake, passed  away  Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018 in Lubbock. Funeral Mass was held Thurs- day afternoon, Oct. 4, 2018 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Earth with Father Rene Perez officiating.  Interment followed in Earth Memorial Cemetery.  Ro- sary  was  recited Wednesday evening at the funeral home by Ray  Serna.   Arrangements  are under  the  personal  care  of Hillcrest  Funeral  Home  in Littlefield. He was born Jan. 14, 1926 in Karnes City, TX to Jesus and Jovita (Madrigal) Garza. Hilario married Maria Zamora Sept. 11, 1948 in Santa Anna, TX.  Together they had six daughters, and one son.  He was a hardworking and easy going man who enjoyed his scratch off tickets or playing cards and dominoes with friends and family. Family was important to him, and he simply enjoyed being with those he loved.  Hilario was a wonderful husband, dad, and “Welo”. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Maria Garza of Springlake; one son, Reynaldo Garza and wife, Mary Jane of Earth; five daugh- ters, Jobita Fuentes of Earth, Geneva Castaneda and husband, Juan of Littlefield, Sylvia Fuentes and husband, Robert, Irma Olvera and husband, Jessie, and Patsy Garcia and husband, Felix, all of Earth; twenty-six grandchildren; fourty-nine great-grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Candida Montiel; his parents;  three  grandsons,  Johnny  Rey  Castaneda,  Joey  Montiel, and Matthew Fuentes; two son-in-laws, Ricardo Fuentes and Jose Montiel; two brothers, Domingo Garza and Juan Garza; and two sisters, Isabel Cervantez and Julia Garza. Serving as pallbearers will be Luis Fuentes, Erica Montiel, Jesse Rey Garza, Steven Castaneda, Erik Olvera, and Isaya Garcia. Honor- ary pallbearers will be Demetrio Fuentes, Emiliano Fuentes, Roman Montiel, Paul Montiel, Jamie Montiel, and Nathan Garcia.  Special honorary pallbearers will be his three angel grandsons, Johnny Rey Castaneda†, Joey Montiel† and Matthew Fuentes†.
