Sue  Johnston  Gray,  69,  of Portales, NM was welcomed into the  arms  of  Jesus  on  Monday, February 19, 2018 in Lubbock. She was born April  6,  1948  in Tucumcari, NM to Bill and Loise (Herron) Johnston. Services to celebrate the life Sue  lived  will  be  at  10  a.m., Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Wheeler  Mortuary  Chapel  in Portales, with Leonard Stanton and  Kendall Terry  officiating. Interment will follow in Portales Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday evening at Wheeler Mortuary. Sue graduated from Portales High School in 1966.  She worked many years in the family businesses, Portales Livestock and Bill Johnston Auctioneers.  She formed many lifelong friendships thru the sales she worked, and they can all tell you Sue worked hard in those sale barns.  She loved life and lived large! Nothing was more important to her than her family, her friends, and her fur babies.  She enjoyed bowling with the Wednesday Morning Ladies League, and playing cards.  Sue loved to travel, and was always up for a new adventure.  She was enamored with Elvis, and was proud to have visited Graceland twice.  Sue had a deeper appreciation for life than most, as she was diagnosed with cancer in 1989.  She fought like a warrior for 29 years, and every time the told her there was minimal chance of survival, she made it her mission to prove modern medi- cine wrong.  She knew that time was truly precious, and she vowed to make the most of every second, and to do it “her way”. She is survived by her son, Ricky Bouldin and wife, Laura of Portales; three step-children, Rena, Tana, and Neal and their families; ten grandchildren; sister-in-law, Diane Johnston of Cloudcroft, NM; nieces, Jena Wilbanks and husband, Jason of Portales, Jeralee Redmon and husband, Joshua of Ft. Worth, and Jordan Johnston of  Ruidoso  NM,  and  their  families;  her  adopted  brother,  Mike Archibeque and his wife, Cecile of Portales and their family; her three cousins whom she was raised with as siblings, Bobbie Wagley and husband, John of Littlefield, Judy Sours and husband, Jerry of Grady, and Jim Herron and wife, Becky of Limon, CO and their fami- lies; and numerous friends she thought of as family. Waiting  for  her  in  Heaven  was  her  son,  Randy  Bouldin  who passed in 2013; her parents; her sister Kay Johnston; her brother, Bobby Johnston; and her true love, Elvis Presley.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Sue’s honor to American Cancer Society.
