Former Leader-News writer recently publishes new book

Nilah Rodgers joined the staff of the Lamb County Leader-News in Littlefield in the 1970’s when she wrote feature stories and covered the county courthouse trials and news. Recently, Rodgers has had a book published, “Home to Hidden Springs.” She started freelancing for magazines after she sold the first article she wrote to Progressive Farmer, and the magazine asked for permission to include her short humorous story in a hardback copy of AGRICULTURAL CLASSICS that featured stories by Thomas Carlyle and George Washington.

A subscriber to Reader’s Digest, she liked the “Drama in Real Life” in each issue which included a notice Reader’s Digest paid $2,500 for each acceptance. Nilah read a newspaper article about a helicopter crash in south Texas, drove to the area, interviewed the man who saved the pilot’s life, wrote the story, mailed it and a few days later got an acceptance.
