Hornets finish fourth at Whitharral Invitational

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity basketball team fell short in their efforts on Saturday finishing fourth overall, after falling to the Whitharral Panthers, 61-36 in the third-place game at the 33rd annual Whitharral Invitational. Chris Albus scored the games first points on a lay-up, but Ruben Rodriguez answered with a lay-up for Sudan, tying the game, 2-2, with just over seven minutes to play in the opening quarter. Albus scored back-to-back layups and then Kody Gonzales drew a block on Rodriguez, earning a trip to the free-throw line. He split the attempts as Sudan took a time out with 5:07 to play in the first quarter, trailing the Panthers, 7-2.

Out of the break, Sudan picked up a steal as Christian Montes found Rodriguez for a lay-up, but on the other end, Albus scored a put-back off of the miss by Matthew Lopez, making the score, 9- 4, with 2:16 to play in the quarter. Albus was fouled on an attempt by Alex Conley; he made both free throws, stretching their lead to, 11- 4.
