In Loving Memory Of Richard Thompson

June 11, 1945 - Nov. 15, 2017

Richard  Thompson,  72,  of Littlefield passed away Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017 in Lubbock. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017 at Sacred  Heart  Catholic  Church in  Littlefield  with  Father  Jim McCartney  officiating.  Interment  will  follow  in  Littlefield Memorial Park. Rosary will be recited  Sunday  and  Monday evening  at  6:00  at  the  funeral home.  Arrangements are under the  personal  care  of  Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield. He was born June 11, 1945 in Granjeno, Texas to Juan and Santos Thompson. Richard moved to Littlefield in 1951. He graduated from Littlefield High School in 1964. On August 25, 1964, he married Lydia Aguirre in Littlefield.  He worked for Littlefield Cotton Products for several years, before he purchased the business and formed The Lord/Richard and Lydia Thompson, where he worked in the importing and exporting of cotton. Richard  was a proud Wildcat Alumni and fan, and a member of the Quarterback Club.  He gladly coached many of his kid's basketball and softball teams, and was always present in their activities. He served on the Littlefield ISD School Board from 1985 until present. He also served on the Lamb Healthcare Center board, and was a proud supporter of the Littlefield community and businesses. Richard loved to go camping in New Mexico, and his pet cow, “Betsy”.  Family was very important to Richard, and he and his wife, Lydia acted as foster parents to many children. He was a wonderful father, but also a loving “Hun” to his grandchildren. He taught his children many valuable lessons, such as to be leaders and not followers and to always finish what you start. His greatest legacy was that he was a Godly role model to his family and those around him. He was very active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served on the Lubbock Cursillo Movement since 1967, was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, and became a Deacon in 1976. Ministry was very important to Richard, and his life motto was Siempre en Cristo. Richard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lydia Thompson of Littlefield; four sons, Michael Thompson and wife, Veronica of El Paso, Tracy Thompson and wife, Kyla of Lubbock, Jesse Thompson currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and Lee Reyes and wife, Beatrice of Anton; four daughters, Carmen Gibson and husband, Woody of Vicksburg, MS, Linda Thompson and Tag Price of Littlefield, Lori Zinn and husband, Rick of Littlefield and Diana Lara and husband, Bobby of Pecos; twenty six grandchildren; 15 and a half great-grandchildren; three sisters, Oralie Barrios and husband, Ben of Lolita, TX, Janie Gonzales of San Antonio and Irene Guzeman of Indianapolis; and many other extended family members and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three brothers.
